During the Edo period of Japan, a human ronin teams up with an orc to save an elf orphan.

A spin-off of the 2017 Will Smith film Bright, Samurai Soul was directed by Kyōhei Ishiguro (Your Lie in April) and features Mississauga, Ontario’s own Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) in the English dub and Yuki Nomura (Yakuza video game series) in the Japanese voiceover.

Based on Caroline Kepnes’ novel of the same name, You was created by Sera Gamble (Supernatural) and Greg Berlanti (The CW’s “Arrowverse”) and stars Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl), Victoria Pedretti (The Haunting of Hill House), Toronto-raised Scott Speedman (Felicity) and Michaela McManus (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit).

Gonzo takes on his biggest challenge yet: spending one night at The Haunted Mansion, the world’s scariest place.

Muppets Haunted Mansion features an ensemble cast that includes Muppets veterans Bill Barretta and Dave Goelz, as well as the likes of Toronto’s own Will Arnett (Arrested Development), Taraji P. Henson (Empire), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) and the late Ed Asner (The Mary Tyler Moore Show) in one of his final roles.

Where to stream Daniel Craig’s James Bond movies in Canada before No Time To Die

After 16 years, Daniel Craig’s record-long tenure as James Bond is coming to an end.

No Time To Die, the swan song for Craig’s iteration of the iconic British superspy, is finally set to exclusively open in theatres on October 8th after multiple COVID-19 related delays.

Co-written and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, No Time To Die follows Bond as he comes out of retirement to stop a terrorist threat. As Craig’s final Bond performance, No Time To Die is also expected to tie up threads from his four previous films: Casino Royale (2005), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015).

Given that, you might be wanting to rewatch some (or all) of these films, especially since it’s been six years since the last one. With that in mind, read on for more info on where you can stream Craig’s previous four Bond flicks in Canada before No Time To Die.

As it so happens, Bell signed a deal with MGM last year to secure the exclusive Canadian streaming rights to the James Bond franchise. This means that all of the Bond films — not only Craig’s, but those starring the likes of the late Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan — are all available on Bell’s Crave service. Specifically, they’re streaming under Crave’s HBO + Movies tier, which costs $19.98 CAD/month.

The Suicide Squad

In exchange for a reduced sentence, a group of convicts is sent on a deadly search-and-destroy mission to the island nation of Corto Maltese.

The Suicide Squad was written and directed by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and features Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Joel Kinnamon (Rick Flag), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) reprising their respective roles from 2016’s Suicide Squad film, while Idris Elba (Luther), John Cena (F9), David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man), Daniela Melchior (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and Edmonton’s own Nathan Fillion (Firefly) co-star.

It’s worth noting that Toronto’s own Jessie Reyez and grandson wrote the single “Rain” (featured in the above trailer) for the film’s soundtrack.

Being James Bond

After numerous delays due to COVID-19, No Time to Die looks finally set to release on October 8th. To celebrate, MGM has released a documentary on Apple TV that reflects on Daniel Craig’s 15-year-run as James Bond.

Directed by Billie Walsh (Springstein and I), Being James Bond features never-before-seen archival footage from Casino Royale all the way up to No Time to Die, as well as conversations with Craig and 007 producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Come From Away [Apple Original]

To coincide with the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Apple is now streaming the live stage recording of Come From Away.

The musical is based on the true story of the 7,000 passengers who were stranded after the terrorist attacks in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland. Canadian couple Irene Sankoff and David Hein wrote Come From Away based on the stories they learned in Gander during the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

News of the World

An aging Civil War veteran must return a young girl to her adopted Indigenous family.

Based on American-Canadian author Paulette Jiles’ novel of the same name, News of the World was co-written and directed by Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips) and stars Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan) and Helena Zengel (System Crasher).

Notably, Jiles spent many years living in Canada working for the CBC and helped set up native language radio stations in Ontario and Quebec.
