Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania comes to Disney+ in May

Marvel Studios has confirmed that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will begin streaming on Disney+ on May 17th.

This will be exactly three months after the Ant-Man threequel opened in theatres.

Helmed once again by Ant-Man series director Peyton Reed, Quantumania serves as the start to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ‘Phase Five’ and follows Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and their family as they are sent to the mysterious Quantum Realm and encounter the villainous Kang the Conquerer (Jonathan Majors).

While Quantumania was meant to set up Kang as the next Thanos-level villain for the MCU, it was met with some of the worst critical reception to a Marvel movie to date. It also underperformed at the box office, a rarity for the MCU. Making matters even worse is recent abuse allegations against Majors himself, leaving his future in the MCU unclear at the moment.

Next up for the MCU is May 5th’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, writer-director James Gunn’s swan song to his ragtag group of space adventurers. On the streaming side, Marvel’s next release will be the Samuel L. Jackson-led Secret Invasion on June 21st.

Will you still subscribe to Netflix when it starts charging for password sharing?

Netflix is tired of offering free password sharing and will start charging a monthly fee on accounts that share passwords in early 2023.

The company recently launched a program for the feature in some regions that charges an additional fee to subaccounts listed in the ‘Who’s Watching section.’ It’s currently unclear how much Netflix will charge per additional user in Canada, but it’ll likely be in the range of $4 to $5.

This is on top of the already costly base price for the streaming service.

  • Netflix Basic — $9.99/month, up to 720p (this is now the standard quality for Basic, up from 480p), can only stream on one screen at the same time
  • Netflix Standard — $16.49/month, up to 1080p, can stream on up to two screens at the same time
  • Netflix Premium — $20.99/month, up to Ultra HD (4K HDR), can stream on up to four screens at the same time

Additionally, Netflix recently revealed plans to launch an ad-supported subscription tier that costs $5.99/month and streams at 720p.

With all this in mind, do you plan to keep using Netflix if it charges for password sharing? Let us know in the comments below.

Reduced COVID restrictions aren’t tearing Canadians away from the internet: poll

A new poll reveals Canadians are spending a lot of time on the internet even as pandemic restrictions ease across the country.

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) outlines the details in Canada’s Internet Factbook, an annual report that profiles internet trends in Canada.

More than half of respondents (54 percent) spend more than five hours every day on the internet in 2022, up from 44 percent reported in 2020. Internet access is so crucial that 72 percent of internet users say they would be unlikely to buy a home without access to high-speed internet.

56 percent of respondents reported having unlimited data included in their home’s internet package in 2022, increasing from 26 percent reported in 2016. British Columbia and Alberta residents are the least likely to have the data option included in their home internet package.

Streaming

Of the hours Canadians spend on the internet every day, a large proportion is spent streaming content. 73 percent of respondents spend at least an hour every day streaming online, and nearly 43 percent spend an hour listening to music or radio online.

57 percent of respondents say they occasionally seek out Canadian content, with residents from Quebec being the most likely to do so.

Netflix remains the most popular online subscription provider, representing 61 percent of respondents, an increase from the 60 percent reported in 2021.

Amazon Prime continues to gain ground with Canadians, with 40 percent of respondents saying they have the service, up from 37 percent last year. Disney plus also saw significant growth, with 23 percent of respondents using the service in 2022, up from 17 percent in 2021.

Despite the growth in streaming services, users still seek out pirated content.

11 percent of respondents say they intentionally access pirated content, with the highest number of respondents coming from Nova Scotia. The poll shows cost, convenience and lack of availability as the top reasons for doing so.

According to the FactBook, a total of two thousand Canadian internet users (18+) were surveyed via an online panel in March 2022

Netflix has been in the news in the past couple of weeks following the streamer’s confirmation that it lost subscribers in the most recent quarter. As it anticipates further losses in the next quarter, the company has confirmed that it’s looking into cracking down on password sharing and rolling out an ad-supported cheaper tier. While films like The Gray Man and Knives Out 2 are undeniably significant, it remains to be seen what effect — if any — they’ll have on the company’s declining business.
