Ahead of its September premiere, Netflix debuts a new look at Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Based on the world created by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a spinoff of 2020’s Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an anime-inspired standalone story set in Night City. The series focuses on an eclectic group of street kids. Night City is a harsh setting where technology and body modification are the norm. David, who appears to be the central character, ends up becoming an edgerunner otherwise known as a mercenary in order to stay alive.
The three-minute-long trailers show off some of the bombastic and enthralling animated visuals created for the show. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is developed by Studio Trigger, a prominent Japanese animation studio. Their credits include Kill La Kill and Little Witch Academia. Studio Trigger has also provided illustrations for Fire Emblem Fates. With a unique visual style, Studio Trigger cut the new trailer.
What’s interesting to note is how faithful Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is in capturing and adapting Night City. There are numerous locations in the trailer that are identifiable as being in Cyberpunk 2077. Although the game has gone through some rocky periods, many consider Night City an interesting playground to explore.
Developer CD Project Red is also best known for its work on The Witcher series. Although the Netflix series starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia is ongoing, it’s based on the novels of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski rather than the games. Netflix is going all in on The Witcher with the animated origin film Nightmare of the Wolf already released. The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel miniseries debuts later this year.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners does not have an exact release date just yet. However, Netflix confirms the original anime will run across 10 episodes.
Less than one month from its initial premiere, Disney and LucasFilm have announced that Andor will now premiere on September 21st.
The spin-off and prequel series to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was first slated to premiere on August 31st, 2022. Now, the 12-episode season kicks off nearly a month later. However, to make it up to eager fans, it will premiere will the first three episodes. Following the premiere, Andor continues on a week-to-week basis, concluding on November 23rd.
Alongside the news of the delay, Disney and LucasFilm debuted a brand new trailer for Andor.
The new footage largely sets up the plot of the series, showing the start of the rebellion against the Empire. Cassian Andor, who is played by Luna, was first introduced in Rogue One. Andor shows his rise in the galaxy far, far away five years prior to the film. As a nobody, Andor seeks to inspire change and become a hero amongst the ranks of the Rebels.
Alongside Luna, Andor stars Genevieve O’Reilly who is once again playing Mon Mothma. To the delight of Star Wars fans, Forest Whitaker is returning as Saw Gerrera. This character has spanned many properties including Rogue One, Clone Wars, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Alex Ferns, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough, and Robert Emms are also members of the cast. It remains to be seen if Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO is returning this season.
Disney+ is available for $11.99 per month or $119.99 for a yearly subscription in Canada.
HBO Max’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon is airing on Bell’s Crave streaming service on August 21st at 9pm ET/6am PT.
On HBO Max in the U.S., House of the Dragon will stream in 4K resolution; however, that might not be the same situation on Crave in Canada. MobileSyrup reached out to Bell regarding House of Dragon’s streaming quality, and we’ve learned that the upcoming TV show’s resolution is currently up in the air.
“At this time, we can’t confirm that HBO’s House of the Dragon will be available in 4K on Crave. Our team is working on it and we hope to have an update soon,” said a Crave spokesperson.
We’ll hopefully learn more about the situation before the official launch of the HBO Max Original series.
For those wondering if Crave even offers 4K, Bell soft-launched 4K content on Apple TV and then proceeded to release 4K content on Android TV, FireTV and Chromecast platforms. Back when 4K content was first announced, titles like Wonder Woman 1984, Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Godzilla vs Kong were some of the first movies/TV shows to stream in 4K on the above platforms.
House of Dragon takes place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of the House of Targaryen.
House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy and Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno. The series will feature ten episodes.

Netflix Canada, Crave, Prime Video and Disney+ are four of the biggest streaming services available in Canada. Of course, there are smaller platforms like Apple TV+ (which features huge hits like Severance and Ted Lasso), Out TV Go, and Hayu, but with this roundup, we’re focusing on the four major ones.
This August, each of these streaming services features stand-out movies and shows that are worth checking out.

Residents of Guelph, Ontario were quite surprised over the weekend when they spotted none other than Adam Sandler.
The Happy Gilmore star, who’s currently shooting the Netflix comedy film You Are SO Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah!, made a stop on July 24th at Guelph Milestones. Interestingly, Brad Clarke, the manager of the restaurant, confirmed the next day on his Instagram page that Sandler also came back to dine in again.
According to CTV News, Sandler was only set to film in “The Royal City” until July 26th. It’s unclear where else in Ontario the film will shoot, although CTV News reports that production is expected to continue until mid-August. Therefore, those in other parts of the province might want to keep an eye out for The Sandman — you never know where he might turn up!
An adaptation of Fiona Rosenbloom’s novel of the same name, You Are SO Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah tells the story of the events that threaten to ruin a girl’s bat mitzvah plans. Notably, Sandler is co-starring alongside his children Sunny and Sadie and wife Jackie, as well as Frozen‘s Idina Menzel, who played his wife in the acclaimed Netflix film Uncut Gems.
A release date for You Are SO Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah has not yet been confirmed.
In other news that relates to Sandler, Netflix and Canada, Juancho Hernangomez — the real-life NBA player who co-starred with the actor in the steamer’s Hustle film earlier this year (pictured above) — is reportedly nearing a one-year deal with the Toronto Raptors.

Telus and its flanker brand Koodo launched a new ‘Stream+’ subscription that allows customers to add a $25/mo bundle with Netflix, Apple TV+, and Discovery+ to their plan.
Telus’ Stream+ service differs slightly from Koodo’s version, as it also includes Telus TV+ and the Vancouver-based national carrier offers a $5/mo discount to customers who get Stream+ when activating or renewing one of its 5G+ or Canada/U.S. Unlimited plans.
Regardless, the main benefit of the bundle is the three included streaming services. Telus breaks down the pricing, noting customers get “Netflix Premium,” which costs $20.99/mo without the bundle, Apple TV+, which costs $5.99/mo without the bundle, and Discovery+, which costs $4.99/mo without the bundle. While the bundle costs $25/mo, all the services on their own would cost $31.97/mo.
Telus Stream+ price breakdown.
Since Netflix offers several subscription tiers, it’s worth noting that Netflix’s website notes what’s included in the $20.99/mo ‘Premium’ tier:
Watch on up to four screens at the same time
Have downloads on up to four phones or tablets
Up to Ultra HD (UHD) quality
Moreover, Telus says that customers who sign up for Stream+ can keep their existing accounts for these services, so if you already have Netflix (for example), you can port your account to Stream+ instead of making a new one. That means you’ll keep your watch history and take advantage of savings.
However, if you’re buying an Apple device, the Stream+ bundle may not be the best deal, at least at first. Apple offers a three-month free trial of Apple TV+ to customers who buy a new Apple device, so you may want to make use of that before getting Stream+.
Disney has revealed all of the new movies and shows hitting its Disney+ service in Canada in August.
Notably, it’s a big month for both Marvel and Star Wars. With the former, there’s She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, starring Regina’s own Tatiana Maslany, while the latter has the Rogue One prequel Andor with Diego Luna.
