Super Nintendo World to open at Universal Studios Hollywood in early 2023

Super Nintendo World is opening to gates to the Mushroom Kingdom in early 2023. The park, which is located at California’s Universal Studios Hollywood, is nearly ready for all to attend.

Earlier this year, Universal confirmed that the first Super Nintendo World park in North America would be opening in 2023. As we slowly approach the new year, Universal has shortened the window by claiming the park will open in “early 2023.”

The first Super Nintendo World opened in Japan in 2021. The concept of the park came from a close collaboration between Nintendo and Universal, with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto brought on board in some capacity.

The park, as you can imagine, bases its attractions and sights on various Nintendo properties.

Upon its opening, the park will be home to Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. As the park’s first ride, attendees can throw on a special pair of googles and battle Team Bowser in an AR-powered experience. Riders travel across tracks in authentic-looking Mario Kart vehicles. Throughout the ride, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach can be seen. Riders collect coins and throw shells in hopes to win the Golden Cup.

In addition, Super Nintendo World features a number of other interactive areas, as well as Nintendo-themed shops and dining areas. The Universal Studios Hollywood’s ‘Feature Presentation’ store will also sell exclusive Mario merch.

With more of an idea of when Super Nintendo World opens, it’s a great idea to start some preliminary trip planning.

Super Nintendo World to open in Hollywood in 2023

Universal has confirmed that its highly anticipated Super Nintendo World theme park will open at Universal Studios Hollywood in California in 2023. The announcement comes as part of ‘MAR10 Day,’ March 10th.

A specific date was not provided. Nonetheless, it’s notable news, considering that the only other Super Nintendo World is currently at Universal Studios Japan. The park, which was conceived through close collaboration with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, opened last March after multiple COVID-19 related delays.

Universal Studios Hollywood’s Nintendo attractions will consist of one ride and a number of interactive areas, as well as themed shopping and dining options. Ahead of the opening, Universal Studios Hollywood’s ‘Feature Presentation’ store will also receive exclusive Mario merch, although a date for this was not given.

Further details have not been revealed, but it’s likely it will be similar to the Japanese park, which features Princess Peach’s Castle, Bowser’s Castle, an AR-powered Mario Kart experience and more. A Donkey Kong expansion is also set to come to the Japanese park in 2024.

I don’t know about you, but after the past couple of years with COVID-19, a trip to the Mushroom Kingdom in Hollywood sounds like just what the Doctor (Mario) ordered.

Japan’s Super Nintendo World is getting a Donkey Kong-themed expansion

Nintendo’s Japanese Super Nintendo World theme park will soon get an ape-filled expansion.

Set to open in 2024 is a new Donkey Kong-themed area. The new section of the park will feature a roller coaster, interactive experiences and themed merchandise and food.

“Guests will be able to take a walk on the wild side through the lush jungles where Donkey Kong and his friends live,” reads Nintendo’s blog post regarding the announcement.

This new addition will increase the theme park’s size by 70 percent, says Nintendo.

Nintendo’s Donkey Kong franchised started back in 1981 as an arcade game. Donkey Kong has been featured in several titles across Nintendo’s consoles following his arcade debut, including the Donkey Kong Country series and Donkey Kong 64.

Since its inception, the series has sold more than 65 million units.

The park initially opened in March 2021 after a lengthy delay due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
