TD app’s Mobile Payment to shutdown November 1

TD plans to shut down the Mobile Payment service in its mobile app despite still not supporting Google Wallet.

Per an email sent to customers late last week, TD said it would discontinue Mobile Payment on November 1st:

“On this date, you will no longer be able to pay for purchases using TD Mobile Payment but your physical TD Credit Card and any pre-authorized payments set up with your card will continue to work,” the email read.

TD cited the “growing popularity of other digital wallets” for the shutdown of Mobile Payment. However, TD still doesn’t support Google Wallet for payments. A Google Wallet help page listing supported Canadian banks and cards doesn’t include TD. Moreover, a Reddit post about the email received several complaints from users who still can’t add TD cards to Google Wallet.

It’s worth noting that TD supports Apple Pay. Oddly, TD’s U.S. subsidiary supports Google Wallet.

TD added Mobile Payment to its app back in 2016 as a way for people with NFC-capable smartphones to make payments with TD-issued cards. Hopefully, now that Mobile Payment is leaving the TD app, the bank will finally add Google Wallet support.

(Thanks Bob!)

TD launches My TD Rewards by partnering with Starbucks

TD Bank has launched its new loyalty rewards program by partnering with coffee chain Starbucks.

The loyalty program is called My TD Rewards, and customers can access it through online banking or the mobile app. The program allows customers to earn points on everyday purchases and use that as currency in select stores.

Customers must also have a Starbucks account to redeem this offer.

Selected TD credit cards and TD Visa Debit cardholders can link their card to their Starbucks account to earn 50 percent more stars when making a purchase. Stars can be redeemed for food, drinks, and select merchandise.

Customers can sign up in three steps:

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Select card/account. If you’re on the web, select the “manage tab” and then “My TD Rewards.” If you’re signing in through the app, select “My TD Rewards.” Select Starbucks.
  3. Link your TD card with your Starbucks account

“We know our customers are always looking for opportunities to earn and redeem points from their favourite retailers, which is why we’re so thrilled to be working with Starbucks to offer our customers more rewards on the purchases that bring them joy — like that first morning cup of coffee,” David Reilly, VP of partnerships and loyalty at TD Credit Cards, said in a statement.

A full list of eligible cards is available on the bank’s website.

At this time, the offer is only available at Starbucks, but TD notes more partners will be added “in the coming months.”

TD first shared details of the reward program in January during the TD Tech Day event. TD representatives told MobileSyrup different loyalty experiences would be released in future updates, allowing customers to earn more points.

TD brings low balance prediction and more to its mobile banking app

TD has plans to enhance its mobile banking app with new features.

The Canadian banking company is introducing new digital insights in the TD app that are designed to prompt customers with a new set of guided self-serve options based on their transaction history.

Now when a customer completes a third-party international remittance transfer, they’ll be prompted with an option to securely send money through TD Global Transfer directly from the user’s TD account within the TD app.

TD says that its customers will receive targeted information through the TD app, informing them that a new TD Access Card is on the way when their card has expired. The report will detail how to activate the access card and other card features, how the card can be used to make online or in-app purchases, and how to pay recurring bills.

The app also now offers low balance prediction to alert customers that are likely to get a low balance in the next two weeks. Additionally, TD says it’s adding upcoming transaction insight to provide a list of upcoming bills in the next two weeks based on recurring transactions.

TD says it’s focused on delivering a connected experience across its platform. In 2022, TD expects to have more than 30 live use digital insights designed to offer a proactive a guided customer experience in the mobile app.

TD’s mobile app is available on Android and iOS.
