The Batman is coming to Crave on April 18

Bell has confirmed that The Batman will begin streaming in Canada exclusively on Crave on April 18th.

This is a particularly notable announcement since it’s the same date that the film hits the U.S.-only HBO Max service. In 2021, Warner Bros.’ film slate — including The Suicide SquadDune and The Matrix Resurrections — debuted on HBO Max and in U.S. theatres simultaneously, but Canadians had to wait several months for them to come to Crave.

As well, The Batman‘s streaming release comes just six weeks after the film opened in theatres on March 4th. A Crave subscription starts at $9.99/month for a Mobile plan, which includes access to HBO content like The Batman. However, a $19.99/month Crave Total subscription is required for streaming this content on any of Crave’s supported devices.

Co-written and directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman follows a younger version of the iconic DC superhero as he tracks down a serial killer known as The Riddler. Robert Pattinson stars as Batman, with the supporting cast including Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as The Penguin.

The Batman’s emo-ness drives Nirvana streams up by 734 percent

One of the standout elements of the marketing for Warner Bros.’ recently released The Batman has been the film’s use of Nirvana’s “Something in the Way.” In addition to featuring in the movie’s trailers, the 1991 song plays twice in the actual film.

Now, all of that exposure has led the track to top music streaming charts. According to music sales data firm MRC Data, The Batman‘s opening weekend (Friday, March 4th through Monday, March 7th) saw “Something in the Way” accumulate 3.1 million on-demand U.S. streams — up 734 percent from the previous four days.

What’s even more impressive is that this only includes “official” streams on platforms like Spotify, and it also only accounts for the U.S. It’s unclear how many people were listening to the song via other means and/or in other countries like Canada.

Earlier this year, The Batman co-writer and director Matt Reeves told Esquire that he chose the song for the film after listening to it early on in the writing process.

“When I considered, ‘How do you do Bruce Wayne in a way that hasn’t been seen before?’ I started thinking, ‘What if some tragedy happened and this guy becomes so reclusive, we don’t know what he’s doing? Is this guy some kind of wayward, reckless, drug addict?’” said Reeves. “And the truth is that he is a kind of drug addict. His drug is his addiction to this drive for revenge. He’s like a Batman Kurt Cobain.”

This isn’t the only DC Comics property that’s recently led to a spike in popularity of an old song. Earlier this year, James Gunn’s use of Wig Wam’s “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” in his Peacemaker series pulled the Norwegian glam metal rock band out from a career slump and allowed it to keep its agent. The song plays during the catchy, meme-worthy opening credits of Peacemaker, which streams on Crave in Canada.

Google Search has a new easter egg for ‘The Batman’

After nearly a year of COVID-related delays, Warner Bros.’ The Batman will finally open in theatres on March 4th.

To celebrate, Google Search now features a special themed easter egg.

Now, queries for “Bruce Wayne,” “Gotham City” or “Bat-Signal” will bring up a yellow Bat-Signal icon on the right of the screen. (Oddly, “Batman” or “The Batman” don’t actually work.) Clicking on this icon will darken the screen, illuminate the Bat-Signal and call a silhouetted Dark Knight to grapple across.

Speaking to Variety, a Google spokesperson confirmed that the easter egg isn’t sponsored by Warner Bros., but it will remain for one year.

Not counting 2017’s animated The Lego Batman MovieThe Batman marks the first solo big-screen Batman film since 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises. Co-written and directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman follows a young Bruce Wayne/Batman (Robert Pattinson) as he pursues a serial killer named The Riddler (Paul Dano).

Cineplex to release tickets for The Batman early screening on Feb 10

DC’s upcoming Matt Reeves-directed The Batman is slated to release on March 4th in Canada, but a recent announcement by Cineplex on its Twitter has Canadian Batman fans going crazy.

Cineplex is going live with advance tickets for the movie at 12pm ET tomorrow, February 10th, which includes access to a “Fan First Event” scheduled for Wednesday, March 2nd, two days before the movie releases in Canada.

According to Cineplex, the “Fan First Event” will take place in IMAX and select UltraAVX locations across Canada.

Cineplex has given away free movie memorabilia at such ‘Fan Events’ in the past so we would guess that would be the case on March 2nd too.

Cineplex, in a reply to a Twitter user, confirmed that it would release more information about the event tomorrow, February 10th.
