Link is Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s star, but sexy Ganondorf is winning over fans’ hearts

While Nintendo gave us one last look at The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom before it releases on May 12th, fans have forgotten all about the trailer in favour of the newly released artwork, which gives us our first look at the game’s main antagonist, Ganondorf.

The first sighting of the Demon King didn’t have fans of the series talking about his role in the upcoming game. No, instead, the talk is primarily focused on Ganondorf’s undeniably good looks and… uh, sex appeal?

I mean, you do see it, right?

The gym-bro muscles, those luscious locks, and that menacing tough guy stare. This character design really has it all. Thankfully, it’s not just me noticing, with the internet in shambles currently over the first official artwork. Zelda fans on Twitter and Reddit are proclaiming their newly found lustful desire for the villain.

For example, Twitter user @JoshuaQuig took to the site to say, “Hoo damn, we all knew he’d be hydrated, but not Luscious.”

One Reddit user, @GrimgrinCorpseBorn could only muster “Daddydorf” in a R/NintendoSwitch discussion about the character. User @MitchOfGilead replied with (you guessed it,) “Ganondilf.”

Considering that this is the first we’re seeing of Ganondorf in his human form after skipping it in Breath of the Wild, it’s a little bit shocking to see such passionate takes on the character’s figure. The initial trailer for Tears of the Kingdom left questions on whether or not Ganon would star in the upcoming game, prompting some to draw examples of what a “rehydrated Ganondorf” would look like. This spun into an internet meme that seems to be the cause of all of the attention Ganondorf is currently getting.

Despite the news of the character’s return being overtaken by heaps of explicitly lude comments (and some fan art that we’re not going to mention) the announcement of Ganondorfs returns to the Zelda series just adds to the hype surrounding one of the most anticipated Switch games in the history of the console.

Those looking to play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (or just ogle at Ganon the whole time) can do so on May 12th when the title officially launches.

Nintendo asks Discord to reveal The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom leaker

Nintendo is looking to identify the person responsible for leaking The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom‘s artbook.

As first reported by TorrentFreak, the Japanese gaming giant is trying to subpoena Discord, the instant messaging platform to which images of the yet-to-be-released artbook were published. The artbook is included with the Tears of the Kingdom collector’s edition, which is set to launch on May 12th alongside the game. In February, a leaker shared images from the artbook on Discord that they claimed were sent by a friend, and these were later posted to Reddit and other platforms.

“NOA [Nintendo of America] is requesting the attached proposed subpoena that would order Discord Inc. (“Discord”) to disclose the identity, including the name(s), address(es), telephone number(s), and e-mail addresses(es) of the user Julien#2743, who is responsible for posting infringing content that appeared at the following Discord channel Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” reads Nintendo’s application for a subpoena.

It remains to be seen how Discord will respond, but in any case, it makes sense that Nintendo would be so protective of what’s sure to be its biggest game of the year. 2017’s Breath of the Wild, the predecessor to Tears of the Kingdom, has sold around 30 million copies across Switch and Wii U, making it the fourth best-selling Switch game. Meanwhile, Nintendo has been quite secretive about the game, with the few trailers we’ve seen having been primarily focused on gameplay.

All will be revealed soon, though, as the game will be officially released on May 12th after a few delays. Unlike most Switch games, though, it will be priced at $89 CAD.

Where to pre-order Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom OLED Nintendo Switch in Canada

Earlier this week, Nintendo held a special video presentation dedicated entirely to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

In it, we saw 10 minutes of open-world gameplay footage from The Breath of the Wild sequel, including a look at some of Link’s new powers. However, the stream ended with the reveal of a few new Tears of the Kingdom-themed products: a special edition Nintendo Switch OLED model ($469.99), Pro controller ($99.99) and Switch carrying case ($32.99).

The Switch OLED releases April 28th while the controller and case launch on May 12th alongside Tears of the Kingdom. We’ve also added the $174.99 collector’s edition, which went up for pre-order last month and quickly sold out everywhere, and the $21.99 Tears of the Kingdom Link amiibo where applicable.

Here’s where you can pre-order them in Canada.

Note: as with many special edition items, pre-orders have sold out quickly as they’ve become available at various retailers. Therefore, you’ll likely want to bookmark these pages and even follow some of the retailers’ social media handles for updates. We’ll also update should any additional retailers become available.

Nintendo to host The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom stream on March 28

A special presentation dedicated entirely to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be held on Tuesday, March 28th.

On social media, Nintendo confirmed that “roughly” 10 minutes of gameplay from the highly anticipated Breath of the Wild sequel will be shown. The event will be hosted by veteran Zelda director and producer Eiji Aonuma.

Those interested in tuning in can do so at 10am ET/7am PT on Nintendo’s YouTube channel.

Following a delay out of 2022, Tears of the Kingdom is now set to release on May 12th, 2023. The game was first revealed in 2019, two years after the release of Breath of the Wild, so it’s been a long time coming.

It’s unclear exactly what we should expect to see from the game, which has largely been shrouded in mystery since its reveal. In the few trailers that have been revealed so far, we’ve seen teases of floating islands about Hyrule, a drone-like apparatus for Link to pilot and more.

Last month, Nintendo also confirmed that Tears of the Kingdom will be priced at $89 in Canada, $10 more than other Switch games. The company says such pricing for any future games will be decided on a “case-by-case basis.”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gets stunning new trailer, no delay

As expected, Nintendo closed out its latest Direct presentation with a new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

While only slightly over two minutes long, we do get a good deal of gameplay footage, including looks at Link riding on horseback through ravaged landscapes, sliding down rails, riding some sort of buggy and flying what appears to be a large drone-like vehicle.

The trailer ends with a glimpse at Zelda. Interestingly, though, it reiterates the May 12th, 2023 release date, which should put some fears of another delay to rest.

Additionally, Nintendo has confirmed that pre-orders for the Breath of the Wild sequel have now gone live while revealing a collector’s edition with an artbook and other goodies. An Amiibo figure based on Link’s appearance in the game is also in the works.

The Legend of Zelda has been faithfully remade in Minecraft without any mods

A faithful remake of 1986’s The Legend of Zelda has been created in Minecraft. This passion project comes from the mind of creator C1OUS3R, who spent close to a month working on it.

In a video published to his channel, C1OUS3R catalogues his time building the remake from start to finish. At the top of the video, the creator notes that no mods are being used. According to C1OUS3R, this means the project can be made as accessible as possible. Rather than using a Resource Pack available in the game, which users would have to download, “Resources” were used. This method manipulates a native world’s resources to ensure all textures load into Minecraft without any mods.

After that, C1OUS3R spent time recreating the entirety of the overworld from The Legend of Zelda. Everything from the game’s starting point to the rivers, caves, etc. has been remade. Instead of leaving it as a 2D plain, C1OUS3R added 3D elements.

Using an online tool known as Blockbench, C1OUS3R cut down his time recreating the world. “This allows you to build the models and export them as a Minecraft file,” the creator explains in his video. Afterward, C1OUS3R created a model of Link and worked on a number of overworld enemies.

Within the first video published, only the first dungeon has been created. “Maybe if it does well enough, I can revisit this map and make the others.” The video concludes with C1OUS3R inviting a number of YouTubers to play through the overworld and the first dungeon.

Later, on Reddit, C1OUS3R says they will release the playable creation once their YouTube video on the project reaches 5,000 likes. As of the time of writing, the ‘I Made The Legend of Zelda in Minecraft’ video has 2,300 likes. It appears as though the goal may be within reach after only 24 hours of being live, as C1OUS3R is close to the halfway mark.

Minecraft has always been seen as this playground for players and creators to explore what’s possible. However, even after all these years, it’s exceptional to see a project so ambitious come to life.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 gets official title, May 2023 release date

Nintendo ended its September 2022 Direct stream with its most anticipated game, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

In a brief trailer, Link can be seen traversing aerial environments, before an official title for the game is revealed: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The game was previously colloquially referred to as “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.”

Alongside the title announcement, Nintendo confirmed that Tears of the Kingdom will release on the Nintendo Switch on May 12th, 2023. The sequel was first revealed at E3 2019 and was targeting a 2022 release, but was later delayed until 2023.

Major Nintendo Direct officially set for September 13

After weeks of rumours and speculation, Nintendo has confirmed a major Direct presentation will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at 7pm PT/10am ET.

In a tweet, the official Nintendo of America account noted that the Direct will be roughly 40 minutes long and “mostly focused” on Switch games launching this winter. As always, the company didn’t hint at anything that might be shown. The showcase will be streamed to Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

That said, we have a few ideas. Giant Bomb‘s Jeff Grubb, a credible industry insider who also correctly pegged the Direct for early this week, has previously indicated that we’ll see Switch ports of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD at the event. Both remasters originally debuted on the Wii U, and Grubb says Nintendo aims to re-release them in the coming months to fill the gap between next year’s untitled Breath of the Wild sequel. Additionally, Grubb has said the long-rumoured remaster of the original Metroid Prime is also planned for a November launch, so that seems like a safe bet for the Direct.

Meanwhile, Nintendo games confirmed to be launching later this year include Bayonetta 3 and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, some (or all) of which could feasibly make an appearance. Grubb also suggested that we’ll finally get an official title at the Direct for the Breath of the Wild sequel, which has otherwise been colloquially referred to as “Breath of the Wild 2” since it was first unveiled in 2019.

It should be noted, however, that Nintendo U.K. is dropping the Direct as a video-on-demand on its YouTube channel “as a mark of respect” for the mourning of Queen Elizabeth II. Therefore, the full contents of the Direct will hit the web within minutes as people scrub through the entire video, so keep that in mind if you want to watch the full show live without “spoilers.”

What are you hoping to see at the Direct? Let us know in the comments.

Fully playable fan-made Zelda: Ocarina of Time PC port now available

A group of fan modders has released a PC port of Nintendo’s iconic N64 game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Per developer Harbour Masters, the PC port offers HD graphics, ultra-widescreen resolution, modding support, keyboard support and more. Text-to-speech, 60fps support, twin-stick camera support and other features are also in the works.

The PC port runs on software called ‘Ship of Harkinian,’ which was released on Harbour Master’s Discord server earlier this week. Essentially, Ship of Harkinian takes a legally-sourced N64 ROM of Ocarina of Time and uses those assets to create a native PC version.

It’s this specific process that should, in theory, protect Harbour Masters from Nintendo, which is notorious for taking legal action against fan projects based on its work. As Ship of Harkinian is a reverse engineering project, it’s technically legal, since it doesn’t use any leaked or copyrighted assets from Nintendo.

Outside of the planned updates for the Ocarina of Time PC port, Harbour Masters says work on a PC version of the game’s sequel, Majora’s Mask, is about 45 percent complete.

It’s worth noting that both games are available on the Nintendo Switch through the Switch Online service’s $63.99 CAD/year membership. However, these are the original N64 versions, not the 3DS remakes.
