Jackie Chan gets honorary Oscar

Jackie Chan has received an honorary Oscar.

The ‘Rush Hour’ actor hailed his recognition at the Eighth Annual Governors Awards a "dream" come true after being recognized by the Academy for the first time in his 56-year career.

Accepting the accolade from Tom Hanks, Michelle Yeoh and Chris Tucker, he said: "My dad always said, ‘Son, you get so many movie awards in the world, when are you going to get one of these?’ Then I just look at my dad. ‘Ha, ha, ha. Dad, I only make comedy action movies.’ "

The 62-year-old actor recalled seeing Sylvester Stallone’s Academy Award statuette when he had a meeting at the ‘Expendables’ star’s home 23 years ago and admitted it made him "really want one".

He recalled: "I touched it, kissed it, smelled it… I believe it still has my fingerprints on it.

"Then I talked to myself, ‘I really want one.’ Finally, (Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs) called and I said, ‘Are you sure?’ "

Jackie went on to thank his fans and vowed to keep making movies, even though he’s been left injured many times because of his work.

He said: "After 56 years in the film industry, making over 200 films, I’ve broken so many bones, finally this is mine. I want to thank you, Hong Kong, such an incredible city, my hometown, my hood, who make me.

"China, my country, I am proud to be Chinese. Thank you, Hollywood, for all of those years teaching me so many things, and also make me a little bit famous. I’m just honored to be here."

Other honourees at the event, which took place at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles on Saturday (11.12.16) night, included film editor Anne V. Coates, casting director Lynn Stalmaster and documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman.

The star-studded guest list for the ceremony included Nicole Kidman, Warren Beatty, Emma Stone, Lupita Nyong’o, Ryan Reynolds, Viola Davis, Andrew Garfield, Dame Helen Mirren, Richard Gere, Michelle Williams, Mark Wahlberg, Amy Adams, Kate Beckinsale, Lily Collins, Marion Cotillard, Felicity Jones and Sir Ben Kingsley.

Tom Hanks’ marriage doesn’t need work

Tom Hanks’ marriage doesn’t take "vast work".

The ‘Sully’ actor met Rita Wilson when they were in high school, but didn’t get together until much later and have now been wed for 28 years.

Though people think it is hard to maintain a relationship in the public eye, Tom doesn’t think it is much different and he and his wife complement one another very well.

He said: "People say, ‘Jeez, it must be hard to stay married in showbusiness.

"I think it’s hard to stay married anywhere, but if you marry the right person, it might work out. We give each other a natural sense of support for whatever the other wants to pursue.

"Our marriage doesn’t require vast work. We have been married 28 years and dig each other a lot."

The 60-year-old star – who has sons Chester, 26, and Truman, 20, with Rita, as well as Colin, 39, and Elizabeth, 34, with ex-wife Samantha Lewes – admitted he wouldn’t have had the courage to ask Rita out when they were younger, while she has confessed she wouldn’t have been interested in him back then anyway.

He told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "I still can’t believe we were in high school together and I wouldn’t have had the guts to talk to Rita Wilson and she has finally confessed she wouldn’t have given me the time of day if I had.

"So we got married; we didn’t do it lightly, knew what we were doing and there’s just no doubt she was the person for me. I dig her and she puts up with me, so good enough."

Last year, Rita underwent a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction surgery after being diagnosed with breast cancer, and her husband is overwhelmed by her bravery.

He said: "All I can do is bow down before the courage of my wife."

Ryan Gosling’s ‘happiest time’

Ryan Gosling says it was the "happiest time" of his life when his two kids were born.

The ‘Nice Guys’ actor has two-year-old Esmerelda and four-month-old Amada with long-term partner Eva Mendes, 42, and admitted their daughters are the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

He said: "They’re angels. It’s the happiest time in my life."

One less than pleasant moment in the Hollywood actor’s life occurred when he auditioned for a part and the person he was acting for took a phone call halfway through, but he was able to use that experience for a scene in his new movie ‘La La Land’.

He said: "There’s actually a scene in the film, which is based on an audition that I had where it was a very emotional scene I had to do and halfway through, the lady took a call and just kept talking while I was supposed to finish my lines."

Ryan also admitted the movie itself is an "emotional" one for the audience, and it has received a positive reaction so far.

He added to ‘Entertainment Tonight’: "I think at their best [musical movies] can be very emotional for the audience, and we really wanted to make a film that people really wanted to see in the theatre.

"From what I understand – and I haven’t seen it with a crowd yet – but people enjoy the film, but they also enjoy the experience of seeing it with an audience."

Tom Hanks has already declared his love for the motion picture, interrupting his own ‘Sully’ press conference to talk highly about the film.

And when asked about watching ‘La La Land’ on a different occasion, he declared: "Man, that was the most fun I’ve had in a thousand years!"

The movie sees Emma Stone portray aspiring actress Mia opposite Ryan’s alter-ego, jazz pianist Sebastian, who fall for each other in Los Angeles.

Rita Wilson ‘thankful’ after beating breast cancer

Rita Wilson is "thankful for every single day" after beating breast cancer.

Last year the 59-year-old actress underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery after her treatment and is now cancer free.

Speaking at Stand Up to Cancer’s telecast on Friday (09.09.16), Rita told Entertainment Tonight: "I want to say, first of all, that I’m thankful for every single day. It’s encouraging. For me, it’s all about awareness and about raising money. I had incredible doctors. I was initially misdiagnosed and I got a second opinion on my pathology [which] showed that I did have cancer. So with that very, very early diagnosis I was able to take care of it and get it all done."

Rita’s husband Tom Hanks, 60, added: "No one should go through this alone. That not only goes for the person who is carrying it and in bed for a very long time, but there’s also the people who love them.

"Stand Up to Cancer will step up, stand up for you. All you have to do is make a call, get involved. You will not be alone in what could be some of the darkest days of your year."

Tom previously revealed that life stopped when Rita was diagnosed.

He said: "What has been so amazing about it is how powerfully it plays out in a relatively short period of time.

"We all know by now what hell that sort of health crisis is.

"It just comes along out of the blue and everything else stops because the only thing to do is to drop everything else and pay attention to myriad stuff that needs to be attended to.

"Rita found out in December. That meant Christmas and New Year was a completely different version of how it had been on any year before, and now here we are a year later and she seems to be out of it."

Tom Hanks selling two homes for 18m

Tom Hanks is selling two Pacific Palisades homes for $18 million.

The 60-year-old actor and his wife Rita Wilson, 59, have put two side-by-side mansions up for sale in the swanky Los Angeles area, which is popular with celebrities.

E! News reports that one house costs $8.75 million, while the second is on the market for $9.25 million.

The first is a 3,930 square-foot, Spanish-style villa with four bedrooms and five bathrooms and impressive views of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Tom and Rita’s second home is a 7,260 square-foot, English country-style property, which has seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

Both have large outdoor spaces.

Although they are selling two houses in the area, Tom and Rita currently live in a 14,500-square-foot home in Pacific Palisades, which they paid $26.1 million for.

They also own three other properties nearby, along with a beach house in Malibu and a holiday home in Idaho.

Meanwhile, Tom recently revealed he is keeping the signs of ageing at bay with yoga, which prevents him from having aches and pains.

He said: "So I’m like, OK, I don’t even have aches and pains. Because I started stretching. I started doing the yoga. It’s the greatest thing.

"But you don’t want to go too [far]. You don’t want to put on yoga pants and burn incense and chant. I just turn on the radio really loud and count it out. I view it as glorified sit-ups. That’s what I say."

And the ‘Captain Phillips’ actor previously proclaimed he has the best job in the world.

He said: "Some people are in showbusiness for twisted reasons. Power. They want to get laid. The money is good.

"But when I stumbled into this, I did it because it was fun and I’m no good at anything else. To get paid to make movies? This is the greatest gig in the world."

Tom Hanks’ mum dies

Tom Hanks’ mother has died.

The 60-year-old actor paid a touching tribute to Janet Marylyn Frager on Tuesday (07.12.16), in which he praised the "beauty" for making a difference to a number of people.

Alongside a picture of his mom in her younger years, he wrote on Instagram: "This beauty? My mom. She was the difference in many lives. Many lives. We say goodbye to her today. Safe crossing, mom! Hanx."

A few hours later, the ‘Saving Mr Banks’ actor posted another image of the State Theatre in Red Bluff, California, recalling happy memories as he and Janet watched many movies there when he was younger.

The post read: "Red Bluff, California. Saw many movies here with our Mom. Thanks for all who came to see her off. Hanx."

Tom’s wife Rita Wilson also took to social media to pay tribute to her late mother-in-law.

Alongside a picture of her spouse and his parent, she wrote: "This wonderful lady gave birth to my husband, and three other children. Thank you for bringing my love into the world. She is at peace now."

In May, Tom was brought to tears as he recalled the loneliness of his "vagabond" childhood.

The ‘Saving Private Ryan’ star and two of his siblings lived with their chef father Amos – who died in 1992 – after their parents split up and lived in two houses in five years.

Choosing the theme to ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ on ‘Desert Island Discs’, Tom – whose youngest brother Jim stayed with their mother after the split – recalled: "This was the ‘wow’ moment going from kid trying to figure out what’s interesting to young man yearning to be an artist.

"I started asking myself… how do I find the vocabulary for what’s rattling around in my head.

"Not long after I started going to the American Conservatory Theatre by myself to see plays I had no idea even existed."

Asked what the feelings in his head were, he grew tearful and said: "What have you done to me?

"No, it’s all right, because I put too much thought into this list. What it was, it was the vocabulary of loneliness."

Tom Hanks: Becoming young dad stopped me from falling off wagon

Tom Hanks believes becoming a young father prevented him from getting hooked on alcohol and dabbling in drugs.

The 59-year-old actor welcomed his first child Colin with his ex-wife Samantha Lewes when he was just 21 and he’s convinced the responsibility he gained from it, after just hitting adulthood himself, stopped him from going off the rails.

Speaking to the Radio Times magazine, he said: "I’m lucky. I was in charge of offspring at a very early age, so I didn’t have the luxury of being able to get stoned a lot. And I never drank too much. I was never what I call a s**tfaced artist. I thought it was more fun just to be seeing what was going on. I did my share, but it didn’t become a habit."

However, although the ‘Cast Away’ star – who also has Elizabeth, 33, with Samantha and Chet, 25, and Truman, 20, with his current spouse Rita Wilson – didn’t destroy his life by using drugs or hitting the bottle, he does think his poor diet growing up has led to him developing Type 2 diabetes.

Hanks, who made the revelation in 2013, explained: "I’m part of the lazy American generation that has blindly kept dancing through the party and now finds ourselves with a malady. I was heavy. You’ve seen me in movies, you know what I looked like. I was a total idiot.

"I thought I could avoid it by removing the buns from my cheeseburgers. Well, it takes a little bit more than that."

But the talented star is adamant he will beat the metabolic disorder, which occurs when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin to function properly, eventually.

He said: "My doctor says if I can hit a target weight, I will not have Type 2 diabetes any more."

Tom Hanks doesn’t feel 60

Tom Hanks feels more like he’s 18 than 60.

The ‘Forrest Gump’ star will reach the big milestone on July 9 but says it is difficult to comprehend because he has never felt his age.

He said: "I am gonna be 60. 1956 was a peak year for births in the United States of America. So I’m going to be 60, I feel like I’m 44, and when I was 44 I felt like I was 36, and when I was 36, I felt like I was 24. At 24 I felt like I was 18. So I feel like I’m 18. Can you tell by this high pitched voice of mine? I even sound like I’m 18!"

And Tom – who is married to Rita Wilson, 59, with whom he has grown up children Truman and Chet, as well as Colin and Elizabeth with his first wife Samantha Lewes – is keeping the signs of ageing at bay with yoga, which prevents him from having aches and pains.

However, he doesn’t want to take the practice "too far" and pretends he’s just doing other exercise when he takes the time for his daily stretches.

He told UK TV show ‘Loraine’: "So I’m like, OK, I don’t even have aches and pains.

The ‘Captain Phillips’ actor recently proclaimed he has the best job in the world.

"But when I stumbled into this, I did it because it was fun and I’m no good at anything else. To get paid to make movies? This is the greatest gig in the world."

Chatshow hosts share their memories of Prince live on air

James Corden dashed back into ‘The Late Late Show’ studio to record a tribute to Prince for broadcast at the start of his show last night (21.04.16).
The 37-year-old presenter had already finished filming for his show with his guest stars from ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War’ – Jessica Chastain, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron – when he heard the iconic singer had died at his Paisley Park estate, Minnesota, aged 57.
And James admitted it wouldn’t have been "right" for him not to pay tribute to the "completely original" singer.
James told viewers: "It didn’t feel right to me to start an entertainment show without coming back down here and turning the lights on and saying something about him before we begin.
"I don’t even know where to start when I talk about Prince as an artist, because to be unique in this world is impossible. Like almost all art is taken or borrowed from somewhere else, and artist like Prince stands alone. He is completely original."
The British presenter recalled how he had seen the ‘Diamonds and Pearls’ singer live many times and feels "lucky" to have lived at the same time as Prince.
He said: "I will always cherish the fact that I got to be in his audience, just to be in his orbit for just those few nights. What a thing to have been alive when Prince was making music. We are all incredibly lucky … "
He then ended his tribute by quoting lyrics from Prince’s 1986 hit ‘Sometimes it Snows in April’.
He said: "Sometimes I wish life was never-ending, but all good things they say, never last."
Meanwhile Stephen Colbert, who presents ‘The Late Show’, addressed Prince’s death during his show monologue, declaring he had been a fan since high school, while lights on the set were changed to purple as a "gesture of respect".
Tom Hanks was one of the guests on the programme, and also took the time to praise Prince.
He said: "It’s not often that you watch TV and you think, ‘this is a brand new thing.’ Because he was really funky in the late ’70s … He took it and elevated it. That was just the beginning of decades. Now he’s gone and God bless him. We’re going to miss him."
And Trevor Noah, presenter of ‘The Daily Show’ opted to save his Prince tribute for the end of his show in his Moment of Zen segment.
He concluded: "Today, as you all know, we lost more than just a man. We lost an icon. We lost a leader. We lost in many aspects a genre in itself. Prince, we’ll always remember. We will always love you. Your music changed our lives and I think it will continue to do that. Today we would like to dedicate our Zen to you."
The programme then aired Prince performing an acoustic version of ‘Reflection’ from ‘MTV Unplugged’.

Charlize Theron had crush on Tom Hanks

Charlize Theron had a crush on Tom Hanks.
The ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ star was sweetly infatuated with the actor during her formative years and often imagined herself as one of his glamorous female co-stars such as fellow blonde beauty Meg Ryan, with whom he starred in a string of hit movies including 1993’s ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ and 1998’s ‘You’ve Got Mail’.
She said: "I grew up watching the movies of Tom Hanks. He was like a ‘boyfriend’. When I was eight, I would walk around like I was one of the girls in a Tom Hanks movie. So I have a restraining order from his wife!"
Charlize attended the Academy Awards last month and though she refused to mention her crush to when she bumped into Tom and his spouse Rita Wilson, she was delighted to present the award for Best Original Screenplay with her ‘The Hunstman: Winter’s War’ co-star Emily Blunt.
Charlize’s five-year-old Jackson watched the Oscars ceremony and was confused when she didn’t win a golden statuette, but was pleased when his mother showed him the award she won for her performance in ‘Monster’.
During an appearance on Italian chat show ‘Che Tempo Che Fa’, Charlize – who also has baby daughter August – said: "I just went to the Oscars this year to present an award with Emily Blunt. My son now has started to understand things better. And he watched the Oscars on TV. He noticed that everybody won an Oscar, so when I came back home, he was like, ‘Mum, you didn’t win anything!’ So I literally told him, ‘Come with me’. I took him in the living room and I told him, ‘Look at it, you see that? Your mom won."
