Tom Hanks Wants To Save the Oscars

Hanks believes that the show, scheduled for February 24, should not be cancelled due to the writers strike.  The actor told Reuters, "The show must go on. That is one of the tenets of everything."

The 51-year-old star wants the studios to continue negotiations with the Writer’s Guild of America.  The strike, which began in November, affects many people in the film and television industry, in addition to the 10 500 members of the Guild.  "I am a member of the board of governors of the Academy, and we definitely want to put on a great show and honor the films that have come out in the course of the year," he said, adding that corporate management should be mindful that so many working people are suffering as a result of the dispute.  "There are caterers and carpenters … and electricians and gaffers. There are a lot of people out there associated with the industry, for whom the sooner this work stoppage is over the better."

The Golden Globes ceremony was recently replaced by a press conference due to the strike.
