Tom Holland takes dog to film photo call

Tom Holland took his beloved pet dog to the photo call of his new movie ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ in London on Thursday (06.15.17).

The 21-year-old actor – who plays the web-slinging titular character in the forthcoming Marvel Studios film – has been separated from his four-legged friend Tess for months while he’s been getting ready for his promotional commitments for the blockbuster, so it’s no wonder the hunk jumped at the chance to show off his canine friend when they were reunited at the event at the Ham Yard Hotel this morning.

The ‘Impossible’ star lapped up the attention at first as he posed for pictures on the red carpet before he called Staffordshire Bull Terrier Tess, who was being cared for by his team, out from behind the scenes and he was greeted with slobbery kisses and a paw in the face.

Although she seemed pleased to see her devoted owner, her tail quickly drooped when she realised how many eyes were on her.

He told the photographers: "Can you quieten down please because she gets really nervous."

Tess then seemed willing to pose for a few photos with her owner before she dashed off behind the curtain again.

Taking to his Instagram account shortly after the photo call wrapped up, Tom shared a picture of Tess licking his face from the event and accompanied it with the sweet caption: "The star of the show today is my angel. Missed her so much. (sic)"

His parents knew how much he missed the adorable pet pooch so had a digital painting of her done for him while he was away.

He uploaded a picture of the artwork online and wrote: "The perfect present, thanks Mum and Dad but a special thank you to Josie Hillier for painting this for me. I absolutely love it. (sic)"

Tom – who was born in Kingston upon Thames – touched back down on his home turf last night alongside his co-star Zendaya – who plays Michelle in the film – director Jon Watts and producers Amy Pascal ahead of the film’s release on July 5.

Tom Holland scared of spiders

Tom Holland is terrified of spiders.

The 21-year-old actor might be donning the famous red and blue lycra suit for his role as Peter Parker and his titular alter-ego in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ – which is set to be released next month – but the star can’t stand the eight-legged creatures in real life because he finds them "sneaky".

He admitted: "I don’t like spiders, man, just because they are sneaky – they just really scare me. They are hairy – ugh. The more I get asked this question, the more scared I get of spiders so I think I am going to try to convince myself that I am not afraid of spiders."

And the young star also admitted his ‘Heart Of The Sea’ co-star Chris Hemsworth – who plays Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – wasn’t particularly helpful when Tom asked him to put in a good word after his audition.

Speaking to News.com.au, Tom said: "I remember emailing him and being like ‘hey man, what’s up? Just so you know, I’m auditioning for Spider-Man and I thought it would be really cool if you could put in a good word for me.

"And he emailed back saying ‘yeah, I’ll let [the producer] know that you are always late and you never know your lines’. So thanks, Chris."

He later clarified in the interview that Chris actually spoke highly of him to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, which helped him land the role.

Meanwhile, Tom recently revealed he was punched in the face during filming for the upcoming summer blockbuster after a stunt went wrong.

He said: "I was supposed to dodge it and I just didn’t see it coming. He had a big metal fist-type thing, and he punched me in the face so hard, like you wouldn’t believe."

It was an unfortunate accident, and the star has put it down to his Spider-Man costume – and how difficult it is to see when he’s wearing the mask on set.

He added: "I could only see about five feet in front of me, with no peripheral vision."

Ryan Reynolds jokes he’s getting ‘full Brazilian wax’

Ryan Reynolds has joked he is getting a "full Brazilian wax".

The 40-year-old actor took to Twitter over the weekend to chat with ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ star Tom Holland, after the star said he was planning on getting a "buzz cut" in time for filming the sequel to the upcoming Marvel comics movie.

Tom wrote on the micro-blogging website: "Thinking about buz cutting my hair for the next one. Thoughts? (sic)"

To which the ‘Deadpool’ star replied: "I’m going with the full Brazilian wax. Not gonna let fear run my life. (sic)"

Tom, 21, then joined in with the light-hearted humour, insisting he’d already beaten Ryan to the punch when it came to getting all his pubic hair waxed off.

He wrote: "I had that done yesterday. So smooth… (sic)"

It’s not the first time Ryan has made witty remarks on Twitter either, as he previously joked about going to DisneyWorld without his two-year-old daughter James, whom he has with his wife Blake Lively.

Ryan – who also has eight-month-old daughter Ines with the blonde beauty – wrote earlier this year: "Went to Disneyland because my daughter’s obsessed with Mickey Mouse. She was so excited when I got home and told her."

Meanwhile, the ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ actor previously admitted that his Uncle Dale, whom he has often been seen jibing with on the social media site, isn’t actually real.

He confessed: "Er, well, I don’t really have an Uncle Dale. He’s just a character I invented to say awful things to Ryan Reynolds on social media. So usually he’s trolling me in some hideous way and I just think that’s kind of funny. I guess I wanted to see what it would feel like to be both the trolled and the troll-ee."

Tom Holland punched on Spider-Man set

Tom Holland was punched in the face during filming for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ after a stunt went wrong.

The 21-year-old actor – who first played the web slinging superhero in 2016 Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster Captain America: Civil War – reprises his role in the latest big screen reboot of the comic book favourite and was left in pain after being "cracked" in the head during a fight scene.

He told Britain’s GQ magazine: "I was supposed to dodge it and I just didn’t see it coming.

Tom previously admitted it took him 45 minutes to pull on his tight-fitting costume every day.

Asked how long it takes to put on the suit, he said: "It depends. There are different versions of the suit that we have for different means. Sometimes I have to wear a harness underneath the suit, which takes probably close to 45 minutes to put on all together. If I’m wearing no harness, it probably takes 25 minutes to put on.

"The tricky part is going to the bathroom. You have to sort of plan in advance. You have to be like, ‘Look, I think I might need the toilet in 45 minutes, so we have to take this off.’ Obviously, it’s a very expensive suit, so you don’t want it just swinging down around your ankles."

And Tom admits it was a bit of a "disappointment" when he first put on the suit as it was the one his stunt double had worn and it left him feeling like a "saggy, sad Spider-Man".

He added: "The first time I put on the suit was, I’m not going to lie, a little bit of a disappointment.

"I was cast as Spider-Man very late into the process of shooting ‘Civil War’. They’d already been shooting on my stunt double before I had the chance to come to set, so they didn’t have time to make me a suit because these suits take weeks and weeks to make, so they just decided to tailor my stunt double’s suit to me.

"Now my stunt double was a good two or three inches taller than me and stockier than me, so the first time I ever tried it on it was kind of like a saggy, sad Spider-Man."

Tom Holland got casting news online

Tom Holland found out he’d been cast as Spider-Man after reading about it online.

The 20-year-old actor – who underwent a grueling five-month audition process to land the role of the web-slinging superhero and his alter ego Peter Parker – was surprised not to get a call telling him the news until after Marvel Studios announced it on their Instagram account.

He said: "I just found out online. They didn’t call me up or anything."

Tom called to check the confirmation with his agents, and then Marvel boss Kevin Feige rang him to break the "great news".

He added to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres: "Then Kevin Feige finally called me and said, ‘I’ve got some great news. You’re going to be Spider-Man.’

"I was like, ‘I know Kevin. You put it on Instagram.’ Like, I’m 20. You really think I’m not going to find it?"

Meanwhile, the British star recently moved out of home for the first time – but is living just a few minutes walk away from his family after being tricked by his mother.

He said: "I have just gone through the stressful process of buying my first apartment, which I am over the moon with. The funny story is I’d been looking for an apartment for nearly two years.

"My mom rang me up, actually, while I was shooting re-shoots here on this lot. She was like, ‘Tom, I’ve found the most amazing apartment. It’s two bedrooms. It’s lovely. You’ll love it. It’s brilliant.’

"I was like, ‘Mom, that sounds amazing. Where is it?’

"You could literally throw a stone from my house is where it is. It’s like down the street from where I live in London.

"I was kind of planning to move out here to LA, but now I’m only just moving five minutes away from my mom. It sounded great.

"I was like, ‘Mom, you should do it! Just put the offer in! It sounds great!’ She was like, ‘Oh, I’ve already done it.’ Thanks mom. But I love it. I’m so happy she did."

Tom Holland recalls ‘crazy’ meeting with Mark Hamill

Tom Holland was shocked that Mark Hamill wanted to meet him at the premiere of ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

The 20-year-old actor – who stars as Spider-Man in the Marvel movies – met the legendary ‘Star Wars’ actor on the red carpet at the film’s premiere, but Tom was surprised Mark was so keen to greet him.

Recalling his first encounter with Mark, who plays Luke Skywalker in the ‘Star Wars’ series, Tom explained: "That was a crazy, crazy experience, man. So we were at the premiere for ‘Civil War’ and one of our producers, Nate, came up to me and was like, ‘Dude, Mark Hamill would like to meet you.’ I was like, ‘That’s crazy, I’ll meet him, yeah. He wants to meet me?’"

Tom admitted the situation took an especially surreal twist when Mark casually name-dropped Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo in the ‘Star Wars’ movies, into the conversation.

He told Collider: "I went over and sat down with him … I was with my buddy Harrison and I was like, ‘Hey Mark, lovely to meet you. This is my friend Harrison.’ And then Mark was like, ‘Hey, I have a friend called Harrison.’

"In my head, I was like, that’s kind of random that he has a friend called Harrison, too. And it wasn’t until, like, five minutes into the conversation that I realised he means Harrison Ford!"

As well as greeting the actor on the red carpet, Mark also found time to meet Tom’s family and pose for photographs with them.

Tom recalled: "Mark was such a nice guy, he asked me who I was at the premiere with. And I brought my whole family to the ‘Civil War’ premiere. I was lucky enough that we got a load of tickets.

"He was like, ‘Where are they? I want to meet them.’ They were in another room in the hotel having their own private party and Mark came and took pictures with every single one of my family, he met everyone. My uncle Tim is the biggest ‘Star Wars’ fan ever and he was over the moon to meet him."

Charlie Hunnam: There was a ‘real distance’ between me and Robert Pattinson

Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson didn’t hit it off when they first met.

The 36-year-old actor and the ‘Twilight’ star feature together on the recently released action movie ‘The Lost City of Z’, and Charlie has said there was a "real distance" between the pair off screen as they didn’t take the time to get to know each other.

Charlie said: "I had a couple of rehearsal sessions with Sienna [Miller], but I didn’t spend any time with Tom [Holland] or Robert.

"I wanted these relationships to evolve naturally on screen. Through the work, I don’t think I said more than ten words to Robert off camera. I didn’t know if he was just ‘in that zone’ or if he genuinely didn’t like me. There was a real distance between us."

Despite being concerned Robert, 30, wouldn’t like him, the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ actor admits the cold attitude helped create "the right dynamic on screen" between Rob’s Henry Costin and Charlie’s Percy Fawcett.

And now that filming has long since wrapped on the production, Charlie says things are looking up for their friendship.

He added to Screen Daily: "He’s reached out to me subsequently, making overtures for us to be friends now so I think it was about the work."

Meanwhile, Charlie recently admitted he was "filled with panic" when he headed onto the set for the movie, as he only had a few days to prepare after wrapping filming on ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’, in which he plays the titular character.

He said: "King Arthur was incredibly demanding: I was in almost every scene and shooting long hours. By the time we finished shooting, I only had ten days before I started shooting this [‘The Lost City of Z’]. I was filled with panic. I used every second of that time to try and transform myself psychologically and physically because I was muscle bound and in action hero mode."

Tom Holland dating Ella Purnell?

Tom Holland is reportedly dating Ella Purnell.

The 20-year-old actor was spotted dancing with the ‘Kick-Ass 2’ beauty at Harvey Weinstein’s BAFTA afterparty at the Rosewood Hotel in central London on Sunday (02.12.17) night.

And the ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ star, who topped the public vote to scoop the 2017 EE Rising Star award at the BAFTAs is rumoured to have gone back to his hotel room at London’s Dorchester hotel to continue his celebrations, and invited Ella to join him.

A source told the Sun newspaper: "Tom and Ella were very close inside the Weinstein party and it looked really obvious that he was taken by her.

"He was out for a huge night and was leading her around the dance floor by the hand. He had loads of people around him, even his mum Nicola Frost, and at one point FaceTimed his friends from inside the venue.

"Tom and Ella went back to the Dorchester in separate cars. Tom had a room there and she didn’t."

The Marvel actor previously romanced aspiring film director Elle Lotherington through his rise to fame but the pair appear to have grown apart.

Meanwhile, Ella, also 20, has most recently been romantically linked to actor Asa Butterfield with whom she starred in 2016 movie ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’.

Tom was humbled to receive the EE Rising Star Award at the Royal Albert Hall in London and revealed that he had actually voted for ‘Loving’s’ Ruth Negga.

In his acceptance speech, the actor thanked two acting coaches, who had worked with him in the earlier stages of his career, and quipped he would be sending a text message to all the other people he needed to thank when he was back in his seat.

Tom Holland loved Michael Keaton’s Batman gags on Spider-Man set

Tom Holland has revealed Michael Keaton kept dropping ‘Batman’ lines into their scenes when they were shooting ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.

Holland is playing the webslinger in the Marvel Studios ‘Spider-Man’ reboot opposite Keaton as supervillain Vulture and the 20-year-old British actor has spilled that the Hollywood icon kept on cracking jokes on set to remind his young co-star that he was responsible for kick-starting Hollywood’s fascination with superheroes when he played The Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’ movie in 1989.

Speaking about working with the 65-year-old star – who also donned the cape and cowl in 1992 follow-up ‘Batman Returns’ – recalled: "(It was) pretty cool. He’s a bad ass. We have a fight in the movie and I punch him. He turns around and says [in a deep voice], ‘I’m Batman.’ He kept doing Batman quotes on set."

And Holland was thrilled Keaton shared many words of advice with him from his experience playing Batman.

He added: "We had a really good conversation about how important it is to keep the superhero role grounded in reality."

Meanwhile, Holland – who has been nominated for the EE Rising Star Award at this year’s BAFTAs – went undercover at an American high school to get his knowledge, and accent, up to scratch.

He told ShortList magazine: "American schools are so different to British ones. Bullying wasn’t really a thing … and I did it to practice the accent."

But when he tried to tell his secret to one of his new ‘classmates’, they didn’t believe him.

He said: "One girl in my class was confused why I was there. I told her, ‘I have a big secret, I’m actually Spider-Man.’ She said, ‘You’re so full of s**t, it’s ridiculous.’ I said, ‘No honestly, I’m an actor, I’m playing Spider-Man.’ She said, ‘Why are you lying about this? You Moron.’"

Tom Holland up against Anya Taylor-Joy for EE Rising Star BAFTA Award

Tom Holland has been nominated for the 2017 EE Rising Star BAFTA Award.

The 20-year-old British actor – who has been cast as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe appearing as the superhero once already in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ – is among the five nominees shortlisted for the prestigious prize along with 20-year-old actress-and-model Anya Taylor-Joy, ‘Loving’ star Ruth Negga, Spanish actress Laia Costa and ‘Manchester by the Sea’ actress Lucas Hedges.

Speaking virtually at the nominations announcement held at BAFTA HQ in London Piccadilly on Thursday (01.05.17), Holland – who also appeared in Ron Howard’s ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ – said: "I have had the craziest year – it’s been nuts. It’s been so fun. I have got to work with lots of amazing people and I got to be Spider-Man this year which is a real dream come true. Thank you BAFTA for recognizing my work and nominating me for the rising star award. What an honor it is and what a great category to be nominated in. Thank you, thank you, thank you and I guess vote for me."

Costa, 31, was equally as thrilled with her nomination, speaking virtually from New York City she said: "Thank you very much. I am excited about my rising star nomination. Thank you to BAFTA and thank you for letting me be part of the BAFTA family from now on. I feel very honored."

Discussing her shortlisting, Anya – who came to prominence in 2015 horror film ‘The Witch’ – said: "I have had an intense but incredible year. I have been really lucky shooting projects I love. I have shot six movies this year – including ‘The Witch’

The five shortlisted actors and actresses were announced by 2009 BAFTA Rising Star Award winner Noel Clarke, who has gone on to star in ‘Doctor Who’ and write and direct the ‘Kidulthood’ trilogy.

Clarke insists the prize gave his career a huge boost and can do the same for this year’s eventual winner.

He said: "I was lucky to win the EE Rising Star Award in 2009, which was such an amazing moment for me, as the only award voted for by the British public it’s so rewarding to know that doing what you love is actually not only recognized by BAFTA in the film industry but in winning, by the film fans at home too. I personally want to congratulate every one of the nominees they are clearly all destined for big things."

The shortlist was compiled back in November by a panel of experts, including actor and previous EE Rising Star winner Will Poulter, presenter Edith Bowman, film critic James King, director Susanna White and casting directors Leo Davis and Lucy Bevan along with some of the UK’s leading film and entertainment journalists.

Previous recipients of the EE Rising Star BAFTA Award – which was set up in memory of Mary Selway who passed away in 2004 – include; Tom Hardy, Poulter, Jack O’Connell and ‘Star Wars’ star John Boyega to name just a few.

This year is the 20th anniversary of BAFTA’s partnership with EE and the 70th year of the BAFTAs themselves.

The voting is now open at ee.co.uk/BAFTA and the winner will be announced at the EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, February 12, 2017.
