Tom Holland visits children’s hospital as Spider-Man

Tom Holland visited a children’s hospital in Atlanta on Thursday (08.18.16) dressed as Spider-Man.

The 20-year-old actor – who will reprise his role as the Marvel superhero in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ – was inspired after he surprised ailing youngsters at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Alongside a picture of himself meeting a patient, he wrote on Instagram:"Meeting you all today was such a wonderful experience and you’re all such little inspirations. We’re proud of you and we love and we hope to be back soon and thank you for having us Egleston Children’s hospital. (sic)"

Tom was joined by his co-star Jacob Batalon – who portrays Ned Leeds in the forthcoming movie – who was also thrilled to put a smile on the children’s faces.

Sharing a photo of Tom cradling a baby, he wrote: "It was amazing to meet the kids today. They inspire us and their smiles are brighter than the sun. We love you (sic)"

Tom follows in the footsteps of fellow actor Johnny Depp, who is known to turn up unannounced at hospitals dressed as his ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ alter-ego, Captain Jack Sparrow.

The 53-year-old Hollywood star’s daughter Lily-Rose, 17 – who he has with ex Vanessa Paradis – was treated for kidney failure, which was caused by E.coli poisoning while her father was filming at London’s Pinewood Studios, for nine days at the capital’s Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2007.

The ‘Black Mass’ star – who also has 14-year-old son Jack – returned to the hospital last year where he dressed up as the Disney character to entertain the ill patients and their carers which "meant the world" to him.

At the time, he said: "The kids are so courageous but to be able to bring a smile or a giggle to the parents means everything in the world to me. For me it’s a gift. They give me the gift."

Tom Holland’s superhero advice

Tom Holland was told not to let playing Spider-Man "affect" him by Chris Hemsworth.

The 20-year-old actor received a "really lovely" email from his ‘Heart of the Sea’ co-star – who is known for playing Thor in the Marvel universe – after he landed the role of the superhero and is doing his best to take the Australian hunk’s advice.

He said: "Once I got cast he sent me a really lovely email about just make sure you keep your feet on the ground and you don’t let this affect you.

"You keep your family and your friends close and, and that’s exactly what I’ve done."

And Chris isn’t the only Marvel star to have advised Tom – who made his Spider-Man debut in ‘Captain America: Civil War – as he also received some tips from ‘Iron Man’ actor Robert Downey Jr. when he screen-tested with him for the coveted role.

Tom told E! News: "As you can imagine I was pretty terrified and he came up to me and said, ‘Look, I felt exactly the same as you did when I did my test for Iron Man but just relax, let your body take over and, and if it’s meant to be it’ll happen.’ "

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ started shooting two weeks ago and while the British actor is enjoying doing his own stunts, he admits it’s also quite terrifying.

He said: "I’ve been scared, for sure. I can’t tell you what the stunt was because it’ll give something away but I basically had to nose dive like thirty-feet or something like that and, and it was really fun but it’s that moment when they’re like three, two, one that you’re like, ‘Ahhh.’ But it was awesome."

Paul Rudd was excited to see Marvel heroes suited up

Paul Rudd loved taking "swings" at the stars of ‘Captain America: Civil War’ while they were wearing their superhero outfits.
The 47-year-old actor reprises his role as Ant-Man for the much-hyped Marvel comic book film and has revealed he relished the moment when the movie’s star-studded cast, which includes the likes Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, donned their outfits on the set.
Rudd told BANG Showbiz: "It is pretty awesome. It’s pretty incredible. I know if I ever go into a Planet Hollywood or any of those restaurants that have the shoes that Kevin Costner in ‘Tin Cup’ or whatever, I’m like, ‘Whoa those were in the movie.’ I still have that feeling, so then to step onto this set and see all of the suits was really cool.
"Then to see all the actors that wear the suits was even cooler, and then to see them put them on, and stand in front of them and get to take swings at them was the coolest. So it was a very exciting time."
Rudd has now watched ‘Civil War’ twice and has praised director Anthony Russo for the way he has handled the plot which sees Evans’ Captain America and his allies fight Iron Man (Downey) over whether The Avengers superhero squad should be under government control.
He added: "I have seen it twice now and I think Russo has knocked it out of the park. I think it is so nuanced and layered and the conflicts are understand both sides and points of view and it makes for a really engaging movie. Characters – it’s all about the characters, and every character has their moment."
The movie also stars Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Paul Bettany as Vision and the first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe of Spider-Man – portrayed by Tom Holland.
