Adele ‘earned £40m in 2016’

Adele’s personal fortune increased by £40 million last year.

The ‘Hello’ hitmaker’s bank balance swelled by an eye-watering amount thanks to her global arena tour and additional sales of her ’25’ album, with her personal fortune going from £85 million to £125 million over a 12-month period.

Adele is, in fact, the richest solo female musician in the Sunday Times newspaper’s annual wealth survey, although she’s still only joint 19th on the list of Britain’s richest musicians, which is topped by Sir Paul McCartney.

The former Beatle boasts a personal fortune of around £780 million, having seen his wealth increase by £20 million over the same time-frame.

Elsewhere, Lord Lloyd-Webber is second on the list and U2 third, with their fortunes worth £740 million and £548 million respectively.

Sir Elton John is listed at number four, with £290 million, and rock icon Sir Mick Jagger fifth, with a fortune of £250 million.

Adele, on the other hand, has £125 million, with the London-born star’s 122-date global arena tour earning an estimated £138 million at box offices.

The 28-year-old singer has also sold out four shows at Wembley Stadium this summer but has previously admitted she doesn’t know if she will tour again, which would severely impact her earning potential in the future.

Speaking to an audience in Auckland, New Zealand, Adele admitted that the reason she has continued to tour is because of her fans.

She shared: "The only reason I’ve toured is you. I’m not sure if touring is my bag."

But the singer also described her tour – which has seen her perform in front of sold-out crowds across the world – as "the greatest accomplishment in my career".

She added: "It’s changed my life. I understand why I do it."

Bono and son rock out to Oasis together

U2 singer Bono has been introducing his eldest son to Oasis’ music.

The 56-year-old rocker has took it upon himself to give his kids – two daughters, Jordan, 27, and Eve, 25, and two sons, Elijah, 17, and John, 15, his children with his wife Ali Hewson – a musical history lesson.

Bono is great friends with former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher and he has been playing Elijah the Manchester group’s most famous tracks and introducing him to other classic 90s indie rock.

He shared: "I mean he listens to … I mean Elijah’s been, I’ve just been going through the 90s with him. Noel Gallagher, Stone Roses, Oasis, all that. He’s rediscovering that and I’m rediscovering it with him. On vinyl."

And the ‘With or Without You’ hitmaker – whose real name is Paul Hewson – also credited his four children for helping him through "house parties", as he admits they’re better at planning the events than he is.

Asked where he keeps his record player and what he uses it for, Bono said: "It’s in our kitchen. So is Edge’s. At home we do have house parties, though some of the better ones are now done by my sons and daughters. But we’ve been playing all kinds of things. "Yesterday we listened to the new Eagles album. I’m not talking about the Californian band, but I think they’re from Leeds, maybe. I think they’re from the UK, which was really great."

Bono is currently gearing up to head out on tour in support of the 30th anniversary of U2’s seminal album ‘The Joshua Tree’ – a tour on which the Irish stadium legends will be supported by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

The singer has apologized to fans who will have to travel far and wide in order to make one of the exclusive shows, but has promised the concert will be "special".

Speaking on UK station BBC Radio 2 on Chris Evans’ ‘Breakfast Show’, the ‘Beautiful Day’ songwriter said: "Originally we were just going to do a few shows, and I apologies to people in Scotland and Wales who have to come down to Twickenham (in London), or indeed in Dublin we could only do one show.

"We were only supposed to do three or four or five, we’re doing I think nearly 40 now across America and Europe. But as I say we don’t do birthdays, we’re more weddings and bar mitzvahs actually, but this seemed to be something to do. And yeah, we’ll see what happens, but it’s a special album of songs for sure."

Bono receives ‘ridiculous’ Man of the Year award

Bono admitted it was "ridiculous" to be given Glamour’s first Man of the Year award as he was on stage accepting the prize.

The U2 frontman was awarded the gong at Glamour’s Women of the Year ceremony at NeueHouse in Hollywood, California, on Monday night (14.11.16), and used the opportunity to call on Donald Trump to make equality a "priority".

Speaking to the crowd, he said: "I know how ridiculous it is for me to be on this stage accepting this award. But if I didn’t know how ridiculous it was, I did have the blessed internet to remind me.

"As my daughter Jordan says, there is nowhere on earth where women have the same opportunities as men.

"Unless we address this problem, both men and women together, the world will continue down this misogynistic, violent and impoverished path.

"I say to the president-elect – look across to women, make equality a priority, it is the only way forward.

"The train is leaving the station, be on it or be under it."

The rocker was given the prize by the glossy publication in honor of his humanitarian work, including the ‘Poverty Is Sexist’ campaign, which aims to relieve the poverty which discriminates against women on a global scale.

Bono attended the ceremony with his wife Ali Hewson, 55, and kids Jordan, 27, and Eve, 25, and was joined by the likes of Gwen Stefani on the winners list as she took the Icon Award.

Other winners included Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, the founders of the Black Lives Matter campaign, IMF chief Christine Lagarde and Nadia Murad, the United Nations ambassador who escaped enslavement from ISIS.

Amber Heard made a rare red carpet appearance at the awards and paid tribute to a sexual assault victim known as Emily Doe.

She said: "Wherever you are, we know you are listening. Thank you for your words. Thank you for your courage. We carry it with us every day."

Earlier this month, Emily wrote an essay in the magazine about sexual assault.

She said: "I am here. I am not that floppy thing you found behind the garbage, speaking melted words.

"I am here, I can stand upright, I can speak clearly, I’ve been listening and am painfully aware of all the hurt you’ve been trying to justify."

Bono to be honored at Women of the Year awards

Bono has been named one of Glamour magazine’s Women of the Year.

The U2 frontman has been recognised by the glossy publication in honor of his humanitarian work, including the ‘Poverty Is Sexist’ campaign, which aims to relieve the poverty which discriminates against women on a global scale, but admitted he doesn’t think he "deserves" the accolade.

Explaining how he called wife Ali Hewson to break the news, the 56-year-old rocker said: "I asked did she think I deserved it. She wasn’t sure. She said I’ve work to do!

"I’m sure I don’t deserve it.

"But I’m grateful for this award as a chance to say the battle for gender equality can’t be won unless men lead it along with women. We’re largely responsible for the problem, so we have to be involved in the solutions."

Despite receiving criticism for the decision to make Bono their first Man of the Year, Glamour’s editor-in-chief, Cindi Leive, insists it was "outdated" to only celebrate the achievements of females at their annual ceremony, which takes place this year on November 14 in Los Angeles.

Cindi said: "We’ve talked for years about whether to honor a man at Women of the Year and we’ve always kind of put the kabash on it. You know, men get a lot of awards and aren’t exactly hurting in the celebration and honors department

"But it started to seem that that might be an outdated way of looking at things, and there are so many men who really are doing wonderful things for women these days. Some men get it and Bono is one of those guys."

As well as Bono, the upcoming Glamour of the Year will also recognize singers Gwen Stefani and Zendaya, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, the founders of the Black Lives Matter campaign, IMF chief Christine Lagarde and

Nadia Murad, the United Nations ambassador who escaped enslavement from Isis.

Bono praises Jennifer Lawrence

Bono has praised Jennifer Lawrence for speaking out on gender inequality.
The U2 frontman is impressed by the "sense of solidarity" women seem to have and thought it was great when the ‘Hunger Games’ star penned an essay calling attention to the male/female pay gap last year.
He said in a Facebook Live Q&A: "Gender equality is at the center of any movement that holds fairness, freedom and justice as its core values.
"In Hollywood, Jennifer Lawrence, speaking about how actors are paid. Women have this incredible thing – bond I think you have. More than men. Women [have a] great sense of solidarity."
Bono’s own charitable organisation, One, is currently running a campaign called Poverty is Sexist, and he noted the gender pay gap is a problem in all industries.
He said: "It’s women saying they will not have it anymore. They will not take the bad deal."
Jennifer previously admitted she felt she "had to" speak out about the issue after discovering she had been paid much less than her male ‘American Hustle’ co-stars.
She said: "I felt like I had to say something because we need to talk about it.
"On average, women are paid 21 percent less than men. We can ask for the same exact thing that men do, and we do face the reality that we do get judged more. It’s just something that is intrinsic, and I would love to see change."

Jennifer Lawrence’s secret relationship

Jennifer Lawrence wants to keep her relationship with Chris Martin ”under wraps”.

The ‘Hunger Games’ star is reportedly keen on keeping her romance with the ‘A Sky Full of Stars’ hitmaker private after seeing how things were for Chris’ former wife Gwyneth Paltrow.

A source told X17 Online: ”She’s really into Chris – she just wants to keep their relationship under wraps because she saw what happened with Gwyneth and she doesn’t want that kind of press.”

The pair were spotted leaving the U2 concert on Saturday (30.05.15) night alongside the band’s frontman Bono as they headed to Chateau Marmont for an after party and were keen to avoid being photographed.

Meanwhile, a source previously claimed the pair are ”happier than ever” and have no problems working around their globetrotting lifestyles.

An insider said: ”Both have full plates and they like it that way. They see each other when they can, yet each continues to do their own thing. They respect each other immeasurably.

”[They] are happier than ever. They have been spending a lot of time together.”

Chris is still on good terms with Gwyneth, with whom he has 10-year-old daughter Apple and nine-year-old son Moses.

U2’s Bono leaves veteran waitress $150 tip

U2’s Bono left a $150 tip to a waitress who served him at a Los Angeles restaurant.

The 55-year-old rocker visited Canters Deli in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday (05.30.15) evening and asked a 50-year-old female waitress to pick out his meal for him.

And it seems the ‘One’ hitmaker was impressed with her choice of a traditional Jewish plate of corned beef reuben, french fries and onion rings as he left a hefty tip for his $20 meal, which also included a free chocolate chip rugelach for dessert, a source told Billboard magazine.

Bono enjoyed his meal so much, he even told the crowd about it at the group’s third night of their five-night residency at the city’s Forum venue.

A show report on the band’s website stated: ”Before’ Iris (Hold Me Close)’, there was talk of LA resident The Edge leaving ‘blood on the dance floor’ after the band’s club gig the night before at the Roxy, as well as Bono’s recent trip to the famed Canter’s deli. U2’s love for L.A. was proclaimed – all of LA – downtown, the valleys, the canyons, and its feeling of ‘what might be’. ”

Bono pays tribute to tour manager

Bono has led tributes to U2’s late tour manager, Dennis Sheehan.

The ‘Ordinary Love’ hitmaker and his bandmates – The Edge, Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton – are struggling to come to terms with the death of their longtime friend and colleague, who went into cardiac arrest in his room at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in Los Angeles today (05.27.15), following the first of their five performances at the nearby The Forum last night.

In a touching message on the group’s website, the 55-year-old star wrote: ”We’ve lost a family member, we’re still taking it in. He wasn’t just a legend in the music business, he was a legend in our band. He is irreplaceable.”

Mr. Sheehan, 68, worked with the Irish rockers for more than 30 years after stints on tour with Patti Smith and Led Zeppelin earlier in his career.

Paramedics were called to his room after he went into cardiac arrest in the early hours of this morning and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to local news outlet ABC7.

Live Nation’s President of Global Touring Arthur Fogel, who worked closely with U2 and Sheehan over the years, also released the following statement: ”With profound sadness we confirm that Dennis Sheehan, U2’s longstanding tour manager and dear friend to us all, has passed away overnight. Our heartfelt sympathy is with his wonderful family.”

This marks the third bereavement for U2 this year, as they lost their longtime spiritual mentor Pastor Jack Heaslip in February and drummer Larry’s father died in Vancouver earlier this month.

U2 star Adam Clayton weds

Rocker Adam Clayton married his long-term girlfriend Mariana Teixeira De Carvalho on Wednesday (09.04.13).

The U2 bassist, 53, tied the knot with the Brazilian model in a low-key ceremony at a registry office in Dublin, Ireland, at 11am.

Just 18 guests, including his fellow band member The Edge and his wife Morleigh Steinberg, attended the civil ceremony but Bono and drummer Larry Mullen were not present.

A spokesperson for the couple confirmed the news and told the Irish Independent newspaper: "Adam is delighted to confirm that he married Mariana de Carvalho today in Dublin."

Adam, who was briefly engaged to supermodel Naomi Campbell in 1994, popped the question to his girlfriend of four years during Carnival in Brazil in February and the couple are planning to celebrate their nuptials with a second ceremony and lavish reception in the south of France this weekend.

A source told the BBC that they would host a three-day party with more than 150 close friends and family.

Last year Adam’s former personal assistant was sentenced to seven years in prison for the embezzlement of €2.8 million (£2.2 million) of his money.

Carol Hawkins was convicted on 181 counts of theft from the bassist’s bank accounts over a four-year period.
