U2 concert in Montreal hosts 2-day fan fair

After a one-year delay, there are only two days left until Irish rockers U2 descend upon Montreal, Canada for a massive two-night concert on July 8 and 9 as part of their 360° world tour.

The group was originally set to perform in July 2010 but had to cancel due to Bono’s ill health. For a year now, fans have held on to tickets and will finally see them honored when the band hosts a massive show at the city’s Hippodrome.

To help ease traffic congestion and keep public transportation from being overloaded, the event promoters, evenko and Live Nation, have created Fan Jam at the Hippodrome, two entire days of festive events in order to encourage fans to stagger their arrival and departure times.

Beginning as early as noon and running late into the night, Fan Jam at the Hippodrome provides concertgoers with a full day of fun. The venue doors will open at 5 p.m. with the show kicking off at 7 p.m. as opening act Interpol take the stage.

Local media outlets Chom, Virgin, The Q, NRJ, Ckoi, Rythme Fm, RockDétente and MusiquePlus / MusiMax will all be broadcasting live from the event, and the Budweiser Big Rig is scheduled to make an appearance. Sennheiser, Bench and PlayStation will also be on hand with sales and interactive demonstrations.

David Guetta dishes on new double album

During a recent interview with Billboard magazine, French DJ David Guetta discussed his upcoming double album, Nothing But The Beat, hitting stores in late August.

Guetta revealed the ambitious project will feature music heavyweights Lil Wayne, Usher, Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg and others, but dispelled rumors that Madonna, U2 or Britney Spears had contributed their talents.

"The challenge for me on this album was not to make another hit record. It was more the challenge of being creative and reinventing myself," Guetta said. "I have a responsibility also for my fans to surprise them and always come with a futuristic sound, and this was also why it was so important for me to make this electronic album at the same time. I really wanted to surprise people."

Nothing But The Beat will boast one disc of electronic compositions, while the other will highlight vocals. The first two singles, Where Them Girls At with Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida and Little Bad Girl with Taio Cruz and Ludacris have already been released to radio.

Guetta illustrated electronica’s mainstream appeal in 2010 when he took home two Grammys for his remixed recordings of Madonna’s Revolver and When Love Takes Over featuring Kelly Rowland.

U2 to reissue Achtung Baby and Zooropa

As with Nirvana’s Nevermind , U2 also intends to mark the 20th anniversary of one of their top albums, 1991’s Achtung Baby, with a unique boxed set, paired with the band’s 1993 companion album Zooropa, reports Gibson.

The album Achtung Baby, with influences of alternative rock, industrial and dance music, marked a definitive change in the band’s musical direction, and went on to become one of their most successful albums, spawning hits like Mysterious Ways and One.

The reissue will be also include the album Zooropa, released two years later, in 1993, which was inspired by the band’s experience on their Zoo TV Tour and initially intended as an EP.

In an upcoming interview in Rolling Stone, the group’s manager Paul McGuiness discussed marketing the reissues.

“There will be multiple formats. If you pile a lot of extra material and packaging and design work into a super-duper box set, there are people who will pay quite a lot for it, so you can budget it at a very high level and pump up the value.”

Last month while on tour in Winnipeg, Canada, the band reportedly filmed part of an Achtung Baby documentary with Davis Guggenheim, the filmmaker behind the project It Might Get Loud, featuring the Edge, Jack White, and Jimmy Page.

U2 still deciding concert setlist

Last year’s cancellation of U2’s performance at the 40th anniversary of the Glastonbury festival left many fans disappointed, but the Irish rockers quickly made amends by confirming their participation at this year’s event, reports Stereoboard.

However, with only a few days to go before they take the main stage of the popular U.K. music festival this Friday, June 24, it appears the band has not reached an agreement on the final setlist.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1, drummer Larry Mullen Jr. said the band has decided which hits they will be playing, but not the order they will be performed.

"It’s taken a lot of time and energy to figure out what the setlist is going to be…,” Mullen said. "We’ve gone through a number of combinations and everyone seems to have a different opinion…”

“We all know who gets his way in the end!" he joked. “There’s a ‘Where the Streets Have No Name’ camp or there is the more subtle approach… where we could build slowly.”

No new U2 album this year

Irish rockers U2 are disappointed that they won’t be able to release a new album this year as planned, reports Music News.

Currently on a massive two-year world tour, the band had hoped to release a new album by the time their 360 Degree concert series wrapped up this July, but scheduling issues have made it impossible.

"We had to have a meeting and look at the schedule to see if we could pick up any extra time to work on it, and we just realized that we couldn’t," explained bassist Adam Clayton.

"To be honest, everyone was a bit gutted. But it was the only sensible decision."

While keeping up with their record-breaking tour, the band has been busy in recording sessions with producers Danger Mouse and RedOne – best known for producing much of Lady Gaga’s work.

Frontman Bono and guitarist The Edge have also been busy trying to get their troubled musical, Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, up and running after a prolonged preview period.
