The 8 most annoying types of Canadian weather

“There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing,” said someone, at some point. Okay, sure. But there is definitely such thing as annoying weather. Thus, we present our list of annoying weather (in no particular order).

Rain-snow mix

Stop trying to be two things at the same time, Precipitation. Either be rain or be snow. You’re not brunch. At the very least, get a better portmanteau. The word “snain” is gross.

Warm wind

“There’s a warm wind blowing the stars around. And I’d really love to see you tonight.” No, England Dan & John Ford Coley. Warm wind doesn’t blow the stars around, it blows dirt around. Nobody wants to see anyone after a warm windstorm. They want to take a shower and pour a swimming pool’s-worth of Visine in their eyes.

Sunshowers

Sun? Combined with rain? What’s even happening right now? When it rains while the sun is shining, the weather is gaslighting you.

Freezing temperatures with no snow

It’s a rip-off! The trade-off, when it comes to cold temperatures, should be skiing, and snow forts, and pretty trees. That’s fair. With no snow cover, freezing temperatures just mean frozen ground. If that ground was once mud, it turns hard and lumpy and crater-filled. It makes you stumble, as if you’re Neil Armstrong doing a terrible job of walking on the moon.

Wind during umbrella weather

Unless your umbrella is made of lead, any amount of breeze—say, a butterfly flapping its wings within a nine-foot radius—will cause the umbrella to flip inside out, rendering it useless. Somebody please invent a better umbrella.

Use this wind speed cheat sheet

Cloudy from dawn until dusk

The weather wants to make you think that it’s 4 p.m. all day long. Woot-woot, only one hour until quittin’ time! But no. It’s 11 a.m., and you still have to get through five meetings. Psych!

Ice pellets combined with wind

It’s like someone took a bunch of tiny, irregularly shaped beads, put them in the freezer for three hours, took them out, and then started repeatedly whipping them directly into your face.

Cold with a windchill

Wind snatches away the precious cushion of heat that your body produces. The wind is stealing from you. Worse? Inanimate objects, such as sign posts and your car, get to blissfully remain at air temperature. Lucky.

Do you dress for cold weather the right way?

Gwyneth Paltrow sings Rihanna song on ‘Glee’

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, 38, is set to appear in Fox’s Glee, as a substitute teacher who fills in for Matthew Morrison’s character Will when he falls ill. She will be singing Cee Lo Green’s Forget You, plus a mash-up of Singin’ in the Rain and Rihanna’s Umbrella with Morrison, Mark Salling and Chris Colfer in the episode which airs tomorrow night (November 16).

During this number, Paltrow will share the stage with Morrison in a nod to another famous number by Gene Kelly from the musical Singin’ in the Rain, a refrain that is integrated into one of Rihanna’s most popular songs from her 2007 album, Good Girl Gone Bad.

The Oscar-winning actress and wife of Coldplay singer, Chris Martin, showcased her singing abilities alongside Huey Lewis in the 2000 movie Duet directed by her father.

Playing the lead role of a country singer named Kelly Canter, Paltrow will soon be singing in theatres across the country in Country Strong, set for nationwide release on January 7, 2011.

Rihanna’s Umbrella Tops Another List

The song Umbrella by Rihanna was just picked as best song of the decade in a survey conducted among several British Telecom customers in England.

This news will undoubtedly come much to the star’s delight, as she makes her comeback to the music scene with her new album Rated-R, following her highly-publicized assault incident.

Umbrella and the video for the song, recorded in 2007, surpassed artists on the survey such as Avril Lavigne, Madonna, Oasis, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue and the surprising second-place holders, t.A.T.u., who are practically unknown in North America.

Rihanna, who was only 11 when the decade began, got a helping hand from Jay-Z as a featured collaborator and producer of the song. The rapper seems to have the Midas touch, and his influence on Umbrella makes no exception.

Here are the 10 best songs of the decade according to votes taken by British Telecom:

1. Rihanna avec Jay-Z – Umbrella
2. t.A.T.u – All The Things She Said
3. Avril Lavigne – Sk8r Boi
4. Britney Spears – Everytime
5. Oasis – The Importance Of Being Earnest
6. Will Young – Leave Right Now
7. Katy Perry – Hot N Cold
8. Amy Winehouse – Back To Black
9. Madonna – Hung Up
10. Kylie Minogue – Can’t Get You Out Of My Head

New Rihanna Single Out Today

Today (October 20) at 11:23 am on the dot, Rihanna’s new single will be heard.

The song, which figures on her next album, has been kept in the utmost secrecy.

The album’s producer, Chris "Tricky" Stewart, admitted in an interview with Rap-Up that he didn’t even know if the song he co-wrote would end up being the first or second single off the album. But one thing is for sure, he knows that the song will be a big hit, and revealed that it’s upbeat and made for the clubs.

Like Rihanna’s hit song, Umbrella featuring Jay-Z, Stewart’s song will also feature a big-name rapper. Stewart was part of the wizardry behind Umbrella‘s success.

Rihanna’s new disc, slated for November 23, is expected to be a double album, judging by the presale on Amazon.

Rihanna is Banning Umbrellas

The 20-year-old singer has asked that all the umbrellas be confiscated from her fans to avoid injuries during the choreography of her song Umbrella, reported FemaleFirst.

A security guard at Aberdeen Exhibition Center, where Rihanna performed on Monday (March 3), stated, "We were taking precautions over a potential accident. We were told Rihanna’s song features dancing with umbrellas on stage. We didn’t want the crowd following her actions and someone getting their eye poked out."

This decision was made following reports of numerous accidents caused by umbrellas at concerts given by Rihanna in Europe. Rihanna will be performing at Liverpool Echo Arena on March 5, and at Windsor Hall in Bournemouth on March 6.

Paul McCartney’s Wish

At the next Brit Awards, where McCartney will be honoured, he hopes that Rihanna will be able to sing his favourite song Umbrella. For McCartney, this performance will make the evening memorable.

The 65-year-old former Beatle explained, "I hope she doesn’t sing something else. That would be the one we would all want to hear."

McCartney implored the 19-year-old to sing for him. "I love that song. So please Rihanna, hear my plea."

It appears that Rihanna heard McCartney’s request. There are rumours that she will be singing with the British group Klaxons.

Britney Spears Refused to Sing Umbrella

Britney Spears was offered the opportunity to record the song Umbrella, but the princess of pop turned it down.  The single was then taken on by Rihanna, who has made it a huge success.

According to FemaleFirst, the American producer Tricky Stewart, who wrote the song, gave the first pick to Britney Spears.

Stewart revealed this to composer Taio Cruz who stated, "I was working with Tricky in his studio the day he finished Umbrella. As soon as I heard it I said, ‘That is a smash, I have to have it,’ but he told me it was on hold for Britney. He waited but Britney’s people never called him back."
