A first American moon landing in almost 50 years!

Intuitive Machines has achieved a historic feat by successfully landing its Odysseus robotic spacecraft near the Moon’s South Pole. This is the first company to land on the lunar surface and the first American landing in almost 50 years.

Odysseus, mounted on a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle, was launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. The robot lander sailed into the deepest parts of space and landed on the moon’s surface at 6:23 pm on Thursday evening.

Odysseus, named after Homer’s Greek hero The Odyssey, landed in the Malapert A crater at the Moon’s south pole. This landing site was not chosen at random, as the area is of scientific interest for its potential to host future human exploration.

NASA has invested $118 million in this historic mission. The instruments will collect valuable data on the Moon’s dust behavior, its terrain and many other areas, and this harvest could help future missions.

This mission is a testament to the capabilities and potential of Intuitive Machines, but it also marks a new stage in partnerships between public and private space agencies. NASA, as Odysseus’ main customer, is delighted with this milestone and looks forward to the many scientific benefits the mission should bring.

In January of this year, Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic failed in its attempt to land an automated spacecraft on the Moon. This failure highlighted the risks and complexities of lunar exploration, despite past successes.

The previous failure makes Intuitive Machines’ success all the more impressive.

Intuitive’s successful soft landing of Odysseus is a key moment in the history of space exploration. It demonstrates a growing commitment to lunar exploration and innovative collaborations that could overcome the obstacles to deep space travel!

El Chapo’s son arrested, 29 people killed

No less than 29 people died during the capture of El Chapo ‘s son in Mexico, which is a huge number. It should also be noted that extradition to the United States is by no means guaranteed.

The people killed in the violent circus during the arrest were suspected gang members (19) and military personnel (10), while Mexican cartel leader Ovidio Guzman found his hands tied.

The capture was made in the northern state of Sinaloa, said Defense Minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval.

Guzman, 32 years old, is the son of drug lord El Chapo Guzman, who has been behind bars for several years.

The young Guzman was transported by helicopter to the plane that took him to Mexico City, and then entered a maximum security federal prison.

Such an arrest creates a shock wave, since the Sinaloa cartel went on a rampage setting fire to cars, or blocking roads…

Nevertheless, no less than 21 arrests were made in total, which is huge.

Note that no civilians were killed during this capture worthy of a Hollywood movie.

At the time of composing these few lines, it is not expected that Guzman will be extradited to the United States, either to New York, where his father has been since 2017.

“The elements (of the case) must be presented and the judges in Mexico decide. It’s a process … It’s not just the request. No U.S. forces were involved in the capture of Ovidio!” said Lopez Obrador.

It is important to note that an increased security presence will remain in Sinaloa for a few more days to protect the public.

Gwen Stefani is jealous of Christina Aguilera

Gwen Stefani admits she is ”really jealous” of Christina Aguilera.

The ‘Baby Don’t Lie’ hitmaker is upset that she hand back her role as a mentor on ‘The Voice’ USA to the 33-year-old beauty next year, as the ‘Your Body’ singer has had a rotating spot on the panel since the series began in 2011.

The 45-year-old star confessed: ”I feel really jealous of Christina. I feel weird that they are doing it without me.”

The No Doubt star says she will definitely miss the show because she really enjoyed it.

She told E! News: ”I got so much out of this, way more than I ever thought.”

Christina, who gave birth to daughter Summer Rain in August with fiancé Matthew Rutler and has son, Max, six, with ex-husband Jordan Bratman, has already started shooting season eight of the reality singing competition, which will air next spring.

A source previously claimed she was worried Gwen might be offered a permanent spot on the panel.

The insider said: ”Christina is extremely threatened by [her temporary replacement] Gwen. She knows that if the ratings are higher on Gwen’s season than they were on hers, the producers may have no choice but to ask Gwen to stay on.

”She’s ready to fight for her spot.”

Daryl Hannah arrested over oil protest

Daryl Hannah has been arrested in Texas.

The ‘Kill Bill’ actress was taken into custody for criminal trespassing and resisting arrest and held at the Wood County Jail after she and a landowner stepped in front of machinery to halt the construction of an oil pipeline.

Daryl and 78-year-old Eleanor Fairchild were hoping to stop the progress of TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipe through the latter’s farmland in Winnsboro – which was subject to a compulsory purchase order for the project – almost a hundred miles east of Dallas.

The pipeline is designed to bring crude oil from Canada to the Gulf Coast.

Daryl’s agent, Paul Bassis, said the protesters were likely to be kept in jail last night (04.10.12), adding: "They’ve arrested Daryl Hannah and a rural Texas great-grandmother.

"The streets of Winnsboro will be much safer tonight now that they’ve gotten that 78-year-old great grandmother off the streets."

Daryl has previously been arrested for protesting against the pipeline in Washington D.C. in 2011.

She and other activists believe it will carry heavy, acidic crude oil that could corrode a metal pipeline and lead to a spill. They also claim that by not refining the oil, it would further contaminate the air in a region that struggles with pollution.

TransCanada counter that the pipeline will be the safest ever built. The issue has even been debated by President Barak Obama.

Speaking of Daryl’s arrest, TransCanada spokesman David Dodson said: "It is unfortunate Ms. Hannah and other out-of-state activists have chosen to break the law by illegally trespassing on private property."

He added protesters were "putting their own safety and the safety of others at risk".

US approves under-skin defibrillator

(AFP) – The new subcutaneous device "uses a lead that is implanted just under the skin along the bottom of the rib cage and breast bone," the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a statement.

"Because the lead is placed under the skin rather than through a vein into the heart, a physician can implant the device without accessing a patient’s blood vessels or heart and without the need for fluoroscopy," the FDA said.

Until now defibrillators — small battery-powered devices that monitor a person’s heart rhythm and deliver small electric shocks to restore an irregular rhythm — were connected directly to the heart.

The delicate operation to implant traditional defibrillators have potentially grave side effects, such as an infection in an already weak patient.

"Some patients with anatomy that makes it challenging to place one of the implantable defibrillators currently on the market may especially benefit from this device," said FDA official Christy Foreman.

The subcutaneous defibrillator is marketed by the US firm Boston Scientific.

Barcelona wants people to cover up

The city of Barcelona and its local economy love tourists who come from around the globe to enjoy one of the most popular sun and culture destinations in Europe. The city enjoys great weather being located directly on the Mediterranean.

What the city doesn’t like is what some tourists display when they are walking about town.

Before or after a trip to the beach, tourists can often be seen visiting the historical and cultural downtown area of Barcelona which is located beside the beach. Tourists have developed an annoying habit of walking around in their bathing suits.

The mayor of Barcelona has seen enough. He launched a giant campaign in this part of the city to discourage visitors from walking around so scantily dressed. He encourages tourists to wear clothing.

In an interview with AFP, a spokesman for the mayor said: "We want people to understand that it’s an attitude that we don’t like. It is neither prohibited nor punished but is also not appropriate."

Signs have sprung up that indicate the desired dress code in the area. The mayor’s office is also encouraging business owners to print the pictogram and put it up at the entrance to their business.
