Ferry sailings to be cancelled if staffing shortages persist: B.C. Ferries

For the second weekend in a row, B.C. Ferries cancelled sailings from Vancouver and Victoria due to staffing shortages. Cancellations to sailings may continue throughout the summer if these staffing shortages persist, according to B.C. Ferries.

The corporation cancelled two sailings on Friday, June 17th and another four on Sunday, June 19th. The cancelled trips were exiting from Tsawwassen in Vancouver and Swartz Bay in Victoria. Sailings were also cancelled from the same two stops on Friday and Sunday of the previous weekend.

“We have had a few occasions recently where we have had to cancel some of our service because we knew didn’t have the required crew to operate the vessel,” says Deborah Marshall, a spokesperson for B.C. Ferries.

She says there’s a chance disruptions to service will continue. “There may be times, sporadically, where we do have to cancel service because we’re not able to fill all the required positions on board,” she says.

Marshall says the company, which performs close to 475 sailings along the coast of British Columbia per day, is actively recruiting new staff to resolve the issue. B.C. Ferries has hired 860 new staff members in recent months, but the company is still having difficulties filling some positions. “Coming out of a pandemic, we found that it is quite a challenging job market. It’s difficult to attract new people,” she explained.

Marshall says some crucial ship-work positions, like chief engineers and captains, are harder to recruit as they require technical training and experience.

B.C. Ferries will work to notify customers in the case of future trip cancellations. All updates on service interruptions can also be found on the B.C. Ferries’ website and on Twitter page.

Victoria Beckham has donated her daughter’s clothes to charity.

The 40-year-old fashion designer has put together 25 complete outfits – including outwear and shoes – from her three-year-old daughter Harper’s wardrobe to raise money for Save The Children through their Fashion Saves Lives sale.

Victoria – who also has three sons, Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12 and Cruz, 10, with husband David Beckham – said: ”I am delighted to be supporting the wonderful work of Save the Children through the Fashion Saves Lives Sale. As a mother, I passionately believe that all children, wherever they live, have the right to a happy, healthy life. Everyone out there can do their part by purchasing or donating, ensuring children all around the world have the opportunity of a brighter future.”

The items include pieces from designers such as Chloe, Roksanda Ilincic, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Charlotte Olympia.

The outfits will be available to buy at Mary Portas’ Living & Giving shop for Save the Children in Primrose Hill, north London, from 10am on Thursday 18 June.

All money raised will go towards Save the Children’s work to end child deaths from preventable causes by 2030.

As well as Victoria, stars including her former Spice Girls bandmate Melanie C, supermodel Kate Moss, and accessories designer Jade Jagger have donated children’s items to the sale – which is fronted by charity ambassadors Mary Portas and Erin O’Connor.

The Fashion Saves Lives sale will be sold on the Mary’s Living & Giving eBay store for Save the Children for a ten day period from 18th – 28th June.

Snoop Dogg planning Vegas trip for Beckham’s 40th

Snoop Dogg is planning to treat David Beckham to a ”big” night out in Las Vegas to celebrate his 40th birthday.

The ‘Young, Wild and Free’ hitmaker wants to give the former footballer – who turns 40 on May 2 – a night to remember in Sin City, but the hunk doesn’t have to worry about telling his wife Victoria Beckham about the trip as the rapper is already planning to speak to her.

He said: ”My boy David hits the big 4-0 this year and you know, we got to do something big to celebrate.

”It’s gotta be Vegas, there ain’t nowhere else it can be.

”You know what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

”He ain’t got to worry about Victoria, I will speak with her and explain when a man turns 40 he needs to go away with his boys.”

But if David – who has children Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, Cruz, 10, and three-year-old Harper with the fashion designer – is hoping to simply share a few quiet drinks with the star then he is mistaken as the 43-year-old rapper wants the pair to roll back the years and drop it like it’s hot in style.

He is quoted by The Sun newspaper as saying: ”40 is nothing these days. We’ll show we can go harder than the kids.”

Snoop has a great record when it comes to throwing birthday parties as just last month he put on a ‘Coming to America’-themed birthday bash for his 18-year-old son Cordell Broadus, which featured a throne and rose petals in a nod to Eddie Murphy’s 1988 movie.

Sir Elton John and David Furnish set for an ‘intimate’ wedding

Sir Elton John and David Furnish will get married in a ”small and intimate ceremony” next weekend.

The 67-year-old singer and his 52-year-old partner have invited 50 of their friends and family – including the likes of David and Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Hurley and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne – to their home in Windsor, Berkshire, South East England, for the ceremony on December 21.

A friend explained: ”Elton and David have been planning this for months.

”Elton is flamboyant but, for once, this will be decidedly low-key affair. Only close friends and family are invited – it’s going to be a small, intimate do.”

The couple – who have been together for 21 years and exchanged vows in a civil partnership ceremony in 2005 – are planning for their two sons, Zachary, three, and Elijah, 23 months, to be ringbearers during the ceremony.

The source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ”It’s important to David and Elton the boys play a special part.”

Guests at the ceremony will be treated to festive-themed canapes and mulled wine.

It only became legal to convert civil partnerships in to marriage two days ago and the couple’s wedding promises a much different affair to that they staged nine years ago, which featured 650 guests, including Lulu and Ringo Starr.

David Beckham ‘lucky to be alive’ after crash

David Beckham is ”lucky to be alive” after being involved in a car crash.

The retired soccer star was collecting his eldest son Brooklyn, 15, from Arsenal’s training ground in London on Saturday (29.11.14) when a woman crashed her Mitsubishi into his Audi, and the pair of them are said to have had a lucky escape.

A witness revealed: ”Beckham and Brooklyn are lucky to be alive. Beckham took the hit on the driver’s side – it could have been a completely different story.”

The 39-year-old hunk – who also has sons Romeo, 12, and Cruz, nine, and three-year-old daughter Harper with fashion designer wife Victoria Beckham, 40 – was ”massively apologetic” following the collision and is said to have given the female driver his jumper as she and her daughter waited for help.

David – who is reported to have hurt his shoulder in the accident – rushed to comfort the pair, who were later taken to hospital, after checking that Brooklyn was okay.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ”Beckham was turning right and mustn’t have seen the other car, or realised how fast it was travelling.

”She smacked into the side of him. It’s a miracle no one was seriously hurt. Beckham was massively apologetic.”

However, the former England captain recovered in time to escort wife Victoria to the Evening Standard Theatre Awards last night (30.11.14).

Chloe Grace Moretz admires Victoria Beckham

Chloe Grace Moretz thinks Victoria Beckham is ”an amazing person.”

The 17-year-old actress, who is rumored to be dating the British fashion designer’s eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham, gets on very well with the 40-year-old star and her husband, David Beckham, and thinks they’re ”awesome.”

Asked if she and aspiring footballer Brooklyn, 15, ”are more than friends,” the ‘Equalizer’ star told Andy Cohen on ‘Watch What Happens Live’: ”That’s naughty. That was a naughty question!”

She added: ”Um, I don’t know. He’s a very good guy. He’s a good person. I enjoy hanging out with him.”

When Andy suggested she was playing coy because she isn’t ready to ”define” their relationship, she responded: ”Maybe.”

Chloe also opened up about her respect for former Spice Girl Victoria.

She said: ”She’s an amazing person. I really admire her work ethic. I love her line. As a family, they’re awesome people.”

But she hasn’t tried to take advantage of her friendship with Brooklyn by asking for discount or special access to Victoria’s latest collection.

She said: ”I haven’t tried yet. Maybe I’ll try. I’m going to try that this week.”

A source previously revealed that David, 39, and Victoria are happy their eldest son is dating Chloe, but always make sure there is a chaperone present when they spend time together.

$20 toll proposed for Australia’s Great Ocean Road

In order to raise funds for maintenance and infrastructure costs, a toll of $20 has been proposed for travelers of Great Ocean Road in Australia, reports ABC News.

Corangamite Shire Mayor Matt Makin spoke about maintaing the roadway and the potential to build playgrounds and additional parking lots for the scenic drive that stretches 243 km (151 miles) along the southeastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Warrnambool.

"I initially thought a token amount in a range of two or three dollars, but I think when you consider the benefits that the pros of the toll will experience in terms of state-of-the-art infrastructure, a pristine environment, excellent viewing platforms, etc, then I think it’s quite feasible to make it in the realm of 10 or 20 dollars,” said Makin.

The important regional tourist attraction winds through varying terrain alongside the coast, and provides access to several prominent landmarks; including the Twelve Apostles limestone stack formations. The road was added to the Australian National Heritage List this year.
