Nintendo fans make Studio Ghibli inspired Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer

Two Nintendo fans have released a Ghibli-inspired fan trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Self-proclaimed “Nintendo fangirls” Channy and Kimberly have shared their version of the Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer that bears a resemblance to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke.

This is only a 57-second video that features its own custom Studio Ghibli logo with Snorlax and Hisuian Growlithe instead of the spirit Totoro. The trailer also shows the protagonist riding on a Wyrdeer, similar to Ashitaka riding his loyal red elk Yakul.

Nintendo Switch Online update improves Zelda: Ocarina of Time performance

Along with adding N64 classic Banjo-Kazooie to the Switch Online’ Expansion Pack’ subscription tier, Nintendo has also improved The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s rampant lag and graphical issues.

This means Ocarina of Time’s ‘Water Temple’ and its abundance of water looks a little closer to the original N64 release. More importantly, as first spotted by YouTuber Modern Vintage Gamer (MVG), NSO Version 1.2 also improves the controller input lag issue the classic game suffered from in the emulator, reducing it to 1-2 frames from 5-6.

MVG outlines the positive graphical changes to Ocarina of Time in the lengthy video, mentioning that the title’s fog and lighting still feature issues.

I’ve spent the last few evenings playing Banjo-Kazooie, one of my favourite games from my childhood, and the Expansion Pack’s emulation is pretty spot-on. I’ve encountered a few instances of slow-down, but beyond the occasional hiccup, the game runs near perfectly on the Switch.

While the Expansion Pack’s price still doesn’t line up with the number of titles it offers, this is good news for the subscription tier. Hopefully, Majora’s Mask runs just as smoothly when it launches next month.

Nintendo’s ‘Expansion Pack’ online tier costs $63.99 for a 12-month individual membership (one account) or $99.99 for a 12-month Family Membership. The subscription includes Switch Online, SNES, NES, N64 and Sega Genesis games, and Animal Crossing New Horizon’s first paid DLC, Happy Home Paradise.

Halo Infinite appears to be down right now for some users

Following January 19th’s hotfix for Big Team Battle and Oddball, it appears Halo Infinite is down for at least some users.

I’ve been unable to access the game for the last few hours and there are several reports of the outage on Twitter and other social media platforms.

In a tweet from four hours ago, 343 Industries detailed Infinite’s January 19th patch, stating that it includes fixes for ‘Big Team Battle’ and improvements to the ‘Oddball’s’ physics.

As it stands right now, it’s unclear what the cause of the issue is, but it seems to be tied to the online aspect of the title as in most instances the game is unable to launch from the Xbox’s dashboard.

In my case, I receive an error code that says the following:

“The Person who bought this needs to sign in. Sign in with the account that bought the game or installed the app. If the game has a trial version that expired, buy the game from the Microsoft Store. For detailed instructions, select help. (0x803f9006)”

It’s unclear when this issue will be fixed. This story will be updated when more information is available.

More to come…

‘Banjo-Kazooie’ hits Nintendo’s Switch Online Expansion Pack on January 20

Marking the first time since the bear and the bird has appeared on a Nintendo home console since Banjo-Tooie’s release on the N64 back in 2000, Banjo-Kazooie will release on Nintendo’s Switch Online Expansion pack on January 20th.

The classic 3D platformer was confirmed to be coming to the Expansion Pack last year, but its exact release date was unknown until now.

While Rare did release a few Banjo-Kazooie titles for the Game Boy Advance in the mid-2000s, the last main entry in the series was 2008’s Nuts & Bolts on the Xbox 360 following Microsoft’s acquisition of the developer. Banjo Kazooie and its sequel Banjo-Tooie are also part of Rare’s collection of classic titles for Xbox consoles, Rare Replay.

With this latest Switch re-release, it seems Nintendo and Microsoft have come to some sort of licensing agreement regarding the iconic characters. For added context, Banjo and Kazooie were added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate back in 2019.

Given Paper Mario hit Nintendo’s Expansion Pack last month and Banjo-Kazooie arrives shortly, it looks like the Japanese gaming giant has plans to bring a new N64 title to the platform monthly.

Hopefully, Banjo-Kazooie’s emulation on the Switch works better than the service’s current lineup of titles. For example, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time suffers from delayed button presses and strange graphical anomalies.

Banjo-Kazooie was the first video game I purchased on my own for the N64 way back in 1998, so I have a pretty strong nostalgic connection to the series. That said, if Nintendo’s other N64 Expansion Pack titles still suffer from technical glitches, I’m not sure I’m willing to shell out the extra cash to upgrade my Switch Online subscription yet.

Nintendo’s new ‘Expansion Pack‘ online tier costs $63.99 for a 12-month individual membership (one account) or $99.99 for a 12-month Family Membership (up to eight accounts). The subscription includes Switch Online, SNES, NES, N64, Sega Genesis and Animal Crossing New Horizon’s first paid DLC, Happy Home Paradise.

PS3 game listings on PS5 store suggest backwards compatibility could be coming soon

Your PlayStation 5 might soon be able to run PlayStation 3 games; at least, that’s what several new PS3 title listings on the PS5 store could indicate.

PS3 game listings on the PS5 store typically feature a PS Now badge and redirect you to PlayStation Now. However, new PS3 title listings that include Dead Or Alive 5, Bejeweled 3 and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands feature an accompanying price tag, indicating that the games are downloadable and playable directly on the current-gen console.

The listings could also be tied to Sony’s rumoured Xbox Game Pass-like subscription service codenamed ‘Spartacus.’

Spartacus is rumoured to feature three tiers: the first will offer a standard PlayStation Plus subscription, the second reportedly gives access to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles and the third features a library of PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games, game streaming and demos.

According to VGC, tries to purchase and download the PS3 games were unsuccessful. Others suggest that the PS3 title listing is just a visual bug that has also occurred in the past, and is pulling the price from when you could rent titles individually from PS Now.

What’s surprising is these PS3 games can be added directly to your wishlist. With this in mind, if the pricing is just a visual bug, the titles wouldn’t typically save to your wishlist. Further, Dead Or Alive 5, isn’t available on PlayStation Now.

Apple’s long-rumoured VR/AR headset might not launch until 2023

It looks like Apple’s often-rumoured augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) headset will miss its previously rumoured 2022 release date, according to reliable Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.

While Apple initially planned to reveal the headset during its WWDC keynote presentation, “development challenges related to overheating, cameras and software have made it harder to stay on track,” says Bloomberg. This delay has likely pushed the mixed reality headset’s reveal back to 2023, which is well out of the initial 2021 window the tech giant reportedly aimed to show off the device in.

Apple’s AR/VR headset is expected to be a high-end device with dual 4K displays, several 3D sensors for inside-out tracking and a roughly $3,000 USD (about $3,763 CAD) price tag. According to this latest report, the headset will also feature two processors, including one as powerful as Apple’s current M1 Pro MacBook Pro chip. In early December, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo published a similar report stating that tech giant’s headset will include a chip that features M1 architecture.

Bloomberg says that Apple is still working on a pair of augmented reality glasses but that the wearble’s release has been pushed back to “later this decade.”

Though much of the initial hype surrounding AR and VR has died down, it will be interesting to see if Apple’s take on a headset can build on established technologies in a meaningful way. That said, with a price approaching the range of $4,000 in Canada, the headset’s audience will likely be limited.

Humble Choice to retire Mac and Linux offerings starting February 1

After announcing changes to its Humble Choice subscription model, Humble has revealed that it will retire all DRM-free (Digital Rights Management) Mac and Linux titles from its Humble Trove.

Humble users will now need to download a new client to manage titles through the company’s newly established subscription service, which begins on February 1st. The main drawback is that it is only compatible with Windows.

Up until now, the company added new titles to the Trove every month as part of Humble Choice subscriber perks. The company will now offer 10 PC games to subscribers every month, for a cost of $12/month. None of these new titles will be for Mac or Linux OS, and current Mac/Linux users have until January 31st to download any games that they wish to keep in their personal collection.

As shared by Reddit user ‘Shnapple8,’ Humble Choice subscribers are receiving an email from Humble, notifying them about the upcoming change and letting users know that they can download the Mac or Linux games from Humble Trove if they wish to have access to their titles post-February 1st.

Check out a screenshot from the email below:

It’s worth noting that Humble will not deliver updates for Mac/Linux games you download and said games will only have updates for Windows via Humble.
