Netflix is working on a live-action Mega Man movie

Do we really need another video game movie? Apparently, Netflix believes so, as the streaming giant is now working on a live-action Mega Man movie.

According to The Verge, this Mega Man movie started back in 2015 at Chernin Entertainment, and then in 2018 Capcom officially announced it’d be a live-action movie written by and directed by Henry Joost and Rel Schulman (Catfish). But now Netflix has picked up the movie, Joost and Schulman announced on the Supermarché company website.

“Features in the works include: an adaptation of Capcom’s Mega Man for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix, which they wrote and are directing;” reads the site.

It’s currently unclear how far this movie is in development, but according to IGN, its sources say that it’s early in development.

There are so many video game adaptations now it’s getting pretty crazy. Netflix has The Witcher, Castlevania, Dota, League of Legends with Resident Evil and Tomb Raider on the way. Further, there are Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Monster Hunter movies out there and a lot more other adaptations like Halo and Mario on the way.

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed crossover explores the ties between Odyssey and Valhalla

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed’s Crossover Stories explores the ties between Kassandra from Odyssey and Eivor from Valhalla, with the two characters travelling thousands of years to come face-to-face.

The first portion of the DLC, ‘Those Who Are Treasured,’ will be playable in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey as a free download as long as you already own the base game. The Crossover Stories content in Odyssey will be playable after completing ‘Chapter 1,’ but Ubisoft recommends players finish the game first before diving in.

On the other hand, ‘A Fated Encounter’ is playable in Valhalla after you’ve unlocked Valka the Seer and reached settlement level four. In this part of the free DLC, Eivor and Kassandra meet up to stop an artifact from destroying the Isle of Skye.

It’s important to note that Odyssey’s Crossover DLC lets you continue as the character you initially selected, whether it’s Alexios or Kassandra. In Odyssey, you can also play as male or female Eivor, though Kassandra will always be a woman.

Assassin’s Creed Crossover Stories releases on December 14th, 2021. Alongside the Ubisoft Quebec and Montreal-developed Crossover Stories DLC, the developer also showed off Valhalla’s next significant expansion that is set to release next year, Dawn of Ragnorok.

As far as DLC packs go, Crossover Stories sounds rather interesting, and it’s impressive Ubisoft is releasing more free content for Odyssey several years after its release.

PlayStation will finally sell its own coloured PS5 faceplates

PlayStation will begin selling PS5 console covers in the first half of 2022.

On the PlayStation Blog, the company unveiled five colour options: Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Galactic Purple and Starlight Blue.

The ‘Midnight Black’ and ‘Cosmic Red’ plates will become available in Canada starting in January 2022, while the remaining three colours will debut here sometime between then and June. All of these faceplates will cost $55 USD (about $70 CAD) and be compatible with both the standard PS5 and the disc-less Digital Edition model.

It’s a notable move from PlayStation. Toronto-based Dbrand had previously been selling unofficial faceplates, although PlayStation shut that business down in October.

When the PS5 launched in November 2020, it was only offered in white — a somewhat odd decision, given that all previous PlayStation hardware — as well most other consoles — have been black or grey.

One of the notable aspects of the PS5’s design is the fact that the faceplates can be easily detached and swapped out if desired.

Additionally, PlayStation is introducing three new PS5 DualSense controller colours to match the faceplates: Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple. These will launch in January 2022 and, alongside the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red controllers, will provide matching colours to the PS5 faceplates.

We’ve reached out to PlayStation for Canadian pricing and will update this story once a response has been received.

What Game Awards announcement were you the most excited about?

The Game Awards were held on December 9th and, like always, plenty of awards were handed out to stellar games.

Deathloop won ‘Best Art Direction,’ Kena: Bridge of Spirits won ‘Best Independent Game’ and ‘Best Debut Indie Game,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy won ‘Best Narrative Game,’ ‘Most Anticipated Game’ was Elden Ring, and most importantly, It Takes Two won ‘Game of the Year.’

However, a lot of people tune into The Game Awards for the trailers and announcements rather than the actual accolades. At the event, we saw new trailers for games that we already know about but also plenty of reveals none of us saw coming.

We saw trailers for Star Wars: Eclipse, Wonder Woman, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, Homeworld 3, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Sonic Frontiers, Have A Nice Death and Canadian-made Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course.

The event also got people hyped up for games like Elden RingSenua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Forspoken, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

With all of this in mind, this week’s community question is: what announcement were you most excited about at the Game Awards?

Banjo-Kazooie is coming to Nintendo Switch Online in January

Nintendo already confirmed that N64 classic Banjo-Kazooie is making its way to the ‘Expansion Pack’ tier of its Switch Online service, but the game now has a January release window.

Rare studio head Craig Duncan retweeted Nintendo’s announcement regarding the news, stating that it’s “always a pleasure to work with our good friends at Nintendo.”

Once one of Nintendo’s most celebrated 2nd-party developers, Rare was purchased by Microsoft back in 2002. This also isn’t the first Nintendo and Rare have collaborated on a project. For example, Banjo and Kazooie were added as an additional fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate back in 2019.

Nintendo recently added Paper Mario 64 to Switch Online’s Expansion Pack tier. The Expansion Pack has been heavily criticized for featuring shoddy emulation across both its Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles. Players have cited issues like delayed on-screen responses to button presses and weird graphical glitches. Nintendo has yet to address these issues.

An individual Switch Online Expansion Pack subscription costs $63.99 for 12 months, while a Family Membership costs $99.99 for 12 months.

Christina Aguilera says Pokémon Legends: Arceus is ‘gorgeous’

Pokémon Legends: Arceus isn’t completely done yet, but it is playable, according to artist Christina Aguilera.

In an interview with ElleAguilera said that during the brief Nintendo Switch advertisement she shot with her family, her daughter fell in love with Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

“It’s so gorgeous, the graphics and the setting that you get to explore in, so she was loving that so much, she wouldn’t give me a turn,” said the singer.

The game isn’t finished (“gone gold”), Aguilera explained, and it was solely available on the Switch that her daughter used during the ad.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus launches on January 28th, so it makes sense that the title hasn’t gone gold yet. The game will launch on the Nintendo Switch and is available for pre-order for $79.99 from Amazon

Check out this Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 DualSense controller

While this is pretty sick gamepad, it’s not something you can buy — so don’t get too hyped.

In partnership with LetsGoDigital, Enrico Bertagnoli (aka Berta) has created a new PlayStation 5 DualSense Spider-Man: Miles Morales controller.

The cool gamepad features dark chrome red webbing that reflects in an interesting way in the light. Berta even painted the light bar red, which ends up changing its colour glow when the gamepad is turned on. The back also features a spider in a matte gray colour scheme. Graphic designer Snoreyn created the video showing off Berta’s work.

If you want to see the controller in person, you’ll need to head to the SpelComputer museum in the Netherlands, where you can see the controller displayed in a frame.

If you really want one of these, you can hit up Berta’s social channel for a custom controller. According to LetsGoDigital, if there is a lot of interest Berta might just make more in a limited quantity.

What was your favourite game of 2021?

With the end of the year fast approaching, Canada’s Geoff Keighley’s annual ‘The Game Awards’ are just around the corner on December 9th.

With that in mind, we want to know: what was your favourite game of 2021?

This year’s Game Awards nominees include Deathloop, It Takes Two, Metroid Dread, Psychonauts 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Resident Evil Village. But there were plenty of other great games that came out that this year, too, like Hitman 3, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Little Nightmares II, Far Cry 6, Forizon Horizon 5, the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes and Halo Infinite.

Personally, my favourite game of the year was Deathloop. I absolutely loved that title and how there are so many ways to play it, not to mention its cool weapons and even better powers. Elden Ring is also great, but I only experienced the game’s Closed Network Test (it’ll be on my list when it releases next year).

Here are some of the favourite 2021 games from MobileSyrup‘s other staff writers:

  • Brad Shankar: Deathloop
  • Brad Bennett: Loop Hero
  • Patrick O’Rouke: Halo Infinite
  • Jon Lamont: Halo Infinite
  • Karandeep Oberoi: FIFA 22

Let us know in the comments below what your favourite game of 2021 was.
