Nintendo is releasing N64 and Sega Genesis controllers for the Switch

Along with a Nintendo Online ‘Expansion Pack’ that includes Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles, Nintendo is also releasing official Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis controllers for the console.

As someone who grew up with both consoles, I’m pretty hyped to revisit titles like Super Mario 64The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Golden Axe and more with both system’s original gamepads.

Nintendo says that the Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis controllers will cost $64 for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. It’s unclear when the gamepads will be available to purchase.

Nintendo officially reveals new 3D platformer Kirby and the Forgotten Land

During Nintendo’s recent Direct stream, the Japanese gaming giant revealed a new 3D action platformer featuring its iconic pink blog character, Kirby.

The game is set to feature “familiar moves” and will allow players to move around freely in a three-dimensional environment. However, beyond this, not much was revealed about the title. Still, for fans of the pink ball that’s capable of sucking up nearly anything, it’s cool to see the franchise finally making a comeback.

Nintendo says that Kirby and the Forgotten Land will release in Spring 2022 for the Switch

Xbox Series X/S All Access financing will soon be available at Best Buy

Though Xbox All Access launched as an EB Games GameStop exclusive offering back in October 2020, it seems the financing option will soon be available through Best Buy in Canada.

According to a recent tweet from @BBYC_Gamers, Best Buy Canada’s gaming-focused account, it’s now possible to get an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S console and 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for a “monthly price” and “with no upfront cost.” Best Buy also has a landing page with more information about All Access up on its website.

As it stands, there doesn’t seem to be a way to purchase the consoles with All Access through Best Buy. Likely, the retailer is still in the process of updating its website.

The financing provider remains ‘PayPlan’ by RBC, and monthly costs are the same, including $29.99 per month for the series X and $39.99 for the Series X.

The $29.99 monthly fee for the Xbox Series S financing plan means Canadians will pay $719.76 in total over the 24-months, excluding taxes. The Xbox Series S otherwise costs $379.99.

The $39.99 monthly fee means a total of $959.76 CAD over the 24-months for the Xbox Series X plan. The console on its own costs $599.

It’s worth noting that both plans include Game Pass Ultimate, which costs $16.99 per month and includes access to all Microsoft first-party titles, EA Play games, Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Live Gold.

Strangely, Xbox Canada’s website still lists EB Games as All Access’ exclusive provider in Canada. MobileSyrup has reached out to Microsoft Canada for more information.

Nintendo could have plans to reveal a new Kirby game

It seems Nintendo now has a history of accidentally leaking its biggest upcoming games.

A few hours ahead of Nintendo’s upcoming Direct, a new Kirby title was briefly added to the gaming giant’s Japanese ‘upcoming releases‘ page featuring a title called something along the lines of Kirby Discovery of the Stars or Kirby’s Dream Land Discovery.

As expected, Nintendo has already removed the page, but Nintendo Life was able to snap a screenshot of the game’s title card.

We won’t have to wait long to know for sure what Nintendo has planned, given that its next Nintendo Direct is set to stream tonight at 6pm ET/3pm PT.

Rumours indicate that the Direct may feature the reveal of Game Boy titles coming to the Switch, the final Smash Bros. Ultimate character, additional information about Splatoon 3 and more.

Here’s how to connect your Nintendo Switch ‘Pokemon Unite’ account to mobile

Though Pokémon Unite is now available on Android and iOS, it’s been playable on the Nintendo Switch for a couple of months now.

If you’re like me, you’ve already played this multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) on your mobile device, but now you’re thinking about taking the experience to your smartphone.

Unlike several other games, Pokémon Unite allows you to crossplay between Android, iOS and the Nintendo Switch, and even further, you’re also able to link your accounts.

Here’s how to do it:

When you first log onto the mobile version of Pokémon Unite, the game will ask you for your language preference and then your birthday.

After that, Pokémon Unite asks you to connect your Google account, Facebook, Pokémon Trainer Club, Nintendo Account, or create a new account.

For me, I used the Nintendo Account and entered my username and password.

Following that, the game kicked me out, which I’m not sure will happen for everyone. However, when I logged back in, I had full access to my Pokémon, items and clothing.

It’s a pretty straightforward process for anyone looking to combine accounts.

The new update also includes a battle pass that features a space theme, with the top reward being a new ‘Galatic Ghost 094’ skin for Gengar.

Apple says it won’t allow Fortnite back in the App Store yet

The ongoing legal battle between Epic Games and Apple isn’t over yet.

Following the ruling that Apple must allow App Store developers to direct users to alternative payment methods, the tech giant has denied Epic’s request to reactivate its developer account.

In a string of recent tweets, Tim Sweeney, Epic’s CEO, revealed court documents outlining that Apple has denied Epic’s request. Apple’s legal team says that it won’t allow Fortnite back in the App Store until the ruling is final and Epic has exhausted all of its appeals.

Though it’s still unclear, the appeal process can take up to five years, according to Sweeney.

Epic’s CEO goes on to say that “just last week, Epic agreed with Apple that we would play by the same rules as everyone else.” Sweeney claims that Apple isn’t allowing the popular battle royale title back in the App Store because the company “won” the court battle, statements Epic has made over the last few weeks and because the game developer/publisher launched its direct payment system back in 2020.

It’s unclear when or if the game will return the iOS App Store, but it’s clear Epic feels it was misled by Apple regarding Fortnite’s return to the App Store.

Sweeney says that this is yet another “extraordinary anticompetitive move by Apple” that reveals its “power to reshape markets and choose winners and losers.”
