Apple Watch Pro CAD renders show new flat design as well as additional buttons

Leaked CAD images of an unannounced Apple Watch Pro have been circulating online. The renders give us a fairly good look at the device ahead of an expected reveal this week during Apple’s September event.

The CAD images in question show off the Apple Watch Pro, a higher-end wearable from the company. Looking back to recent reports, the images align with what’s expected. The CAD images highlight a supposed new flat design. The “rugged” new device is also shown to have an additional button.

The new physical button is shown to be located opposite the digital crown. The digital crown itself is also shown to be a bit larger and more tactile. Above this new inclusion are three small holes, which are likely to be the Apple Watch Pro’s speakers.

The display itself appears to be completely flat with more defined edges running across each side of the device. Prior reports indicate that the device may be available in a larger 47mm case size. Though, the renders show no indication of size.

Apple Watch Pro is said to be more focused on providing use case benefits during athletic activities and sports. The rugged design should offer more durability via a titanium casing and the additional button could assist in use while active. Additional features expected are a longer battery life and Low Power Mode, all powered by an S8 chip.

The device could likely run at a premium as analysts expect the Apple Watch Pro to be sold for around $900 USD (approximately $1,138 CAD). We should know more this week during Apple’s event on Wednesday, September 7th.

Apple Watch helps save U.K. man’s life after his heart stops 138 times

Apple’s smartwatch has yet again played a pivotal role in saving someone’s life.

As first reported by The Independent (via Apple Insider), David Last from Norfolk, England, was given a low heart rate warning of 30 beats per minute nearly 3,000 times via his Apple Watch’s electrocardiogram (ECG) feature. For context, the average adult male’s heart typically rests at between 60 to 100bpm.

Last assumed that the wearable was defective, but his wife encouraged him to go see a doctor. Finally, after undergoing several tests where the results would take months to come back, Last underwent a 48-hour ECG test. The hospital immediately called Last back five times before they were able to reach him, indicating how dire the results were.

Last was suffering from a serious third-degree heart block. During that 48-hour ECG test, his heart stopped 138 times in 10-second intervals. Last was given a pacemaker via surgery in August and says he isn’t experiencing any “symptoms whatsoever.”

“If she hadn’t bought me my Apple watch for my birthday, I wouldn’t be here. I will always be eternally grateful to her for it. Apart from charging it, it’s always staying on me now,” Last told The Independent.

Apple is expected to reveal its new Apple Watch Pro, Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE at its upcoming September 7th fall hardware event.

Apple Watch Pro might not work with older Apple Watch straps

The Apple Watch backwards compatibility Watch Band dream could soon be over.

As first reported by MacRumors, leaker UnclePan says Apple’s rumoured rugged smartwatch might not work with current Watch Bands.

Though the Apple Watch’s size has changed over the years, Bands have always still fit the smartwatch. For example, the Series 3’s 38mm and 42mm size fits the Series 4’s 40mm and 44mm Watch Band and vice versa. Even the Series 7’s 45mm bands still work with earlier versions of the wearable.

With recent rumours pointing at the Apple Watch Pro featuring a roughly 2-inch display in a 47mm case size, Apple’s 38mm/42mm/40mm/44mm Watch Bands might not work well with the much larger wearable. On the other hand, the Series 7’s bigger 45mm strap could fit more seamlessly with the Watch Pro, given it’s slightly larger.

However, Mark Gurman says older Watch Bands will likely still work with the Apple Watch Pro, although they “won’t fit as well or look as seamless.”

Rumoured Apple Watch Pro features include longer battery life, satellite connectivity, a titanium casing, an S8 chip and an entirely new design that features flatter edges.

Of course, it’s worth approaching these recent Apple Watch Pro rumours with a heavy dose of skepticism since the Apple Watch Series 7 was supposed to feature a full redesign but ended up looking very similar to the Series 6.

Apple will likely reveal its Apple Watch Pro at its upcoming fall hardware event on September 7th.

Apple Watch Pro rumoured to feature flat display, rugged design and satellite connectivity

It looks like Apple’s often-rumoured Apple Watch Pro could be real.

According to the latest edition of Mark Gurman’s Bloomberg Power On newsletter, future versions of Apple’s rumoured rugged Apple Watch Pro could feature satellite connectivity functionality.

In his newsletter, Gurman explains that the satellite feature will allow the rugged Apple Watch Pro to make quick calls to emergency services when there’s no cellular signal alongside global internet access and the ability to make phone calls over satellite links.

Gurman also alludes that satellite calls will likely come to the iPhone 14 series this year, followed later by future versions of the Apple Watch Pro. It’s worth noting that satellite features were long-rumoured for the iPhone, but haven’t materialized yet. Still, with Starlink and T-Mobile joining forces to connect phones to satellites, now could be the time for Apple to launch a satellite iPhone.

Other rumours surrounding the Apple Watch Pro (via Mac Otakara) indicate that the high-end wearable will be available in a larger 47mm case size, while the Series 7 will come in 41mm/45mm variants.

The larger, flatter Watch Pro display will measure in at 1.99-inches diagonally, according to reports. Other features include longer battery life, a titanium casing, an S8 chip and an improved Low Power Mode.

With the rumoured Apple Watch Pro, it seems like Apple aims to take on Garmin’s more active wearable audience with a smartwatch that offers a similar level of durability and features.

Apple is expected to reveal the Apple Watch Pro at its upcoming ‘Far Out’ event on September 7th.

In other Apple-related news, the tech giant recently filed several trademarks related to its rumoured AR/VR headset.

Apple Watch Series 8 could feature redesign with flat display

The Apple Watch Series 7 didn’t receive the significant redesign some predicted, but Apple might have planned to save that new look for the Series 8.

According to a new rumour from a leaker known as ‘ShimpApplePro’ (yes, this is their actual username), the front of the Series 8 will feature flat glass, and the sides of the wearable will be squared-off.

In renders created by sometimes reliable leaker Jon Prosser, the overall design of the Series 8 looks very similar to the look of the current iPhone 13 and iPad Pro.

It’s important to note that Prosser was behind leaks from last May predicting that the Apple Watch Series 7 would feature a flat design with squared-off edges, and that didn’t end up happening. At the time, Prosser mentioned there’s a possibility this design could be coming to the Series 8, so there may still be some truth to that leak.

Rumours point to Apple launching three new Apple Watches this year: an Apple Watch Series 8, a 2nd-gen Apple Watch SE and a new, more durable ‘Explorer Edition’ of the wearable designed for extreme sports. Prosser suggests that the squared-off redesign is likely coming to all three new versions of the  Apple Watch.

Apple is expected to reveal the new version of the Apple Watch this coming fall alongside its iPhone 14 series.

Apple Watch Series 8 could feature body temperature measurement

It’s no secret that Apple’s smartwatch line has remained pretty stagnant for the last few generations.

However, that could soon change — at least as far as its sensors are concerned — if a new report from often-reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is accurate. According to Kuo, the Apple Watch Series 8 could feature a built-in body temperature sensor if it’s able to “meet Apple’s high requirements before mass production.”

Kuo says that the Series 7 was supposed to feature a body temperature sensor but “failed to qualify before entering [the] EVT stage last year.” According to Kuo, body temperature measurement is difficult to add to a wearable because “skin temperature quickly varies depending on outside environments.”

Kuo’s report backs up reports sourced from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, stating that Apple’s next-gen Apple Watch will feature a body temperature sensor.

Beyond the above leak, not much is known about the Apple Watch Series 8 or watchOS 8. Apple’s next-gen Apple Watch is expected to release this coming fall, likely during a September or October hardware event.
