Ozempic: Jillian Michaels thinks Oprah is lying

Jillian Michaels, the famous fitness trainer also known for her participation in the reality TV show The Biggest Loser, accuses Oprah Winfrey of hiding her use of Ozempic to lose weight, for financial gain, as she has been a Weight Watchers shareholder for several years now.

In an interview with Page Six, Jillian Michaels expressed her concerns about Oprah Winfrey’s use of Ozempic. As she is a Weight Watchers’ important shareholder, this could indicate a potential conflict of interest.

Jillian Michaels also claims that Oprah receives a financial incentive from Ozempic… and notes that Weight Watchers bought a company last year that would also provide access to drugs like Ozempic!

In 2023, Weight Watchers actually launched a program for users of Ozempic and other similar weight-loss drugs.

Oprah has always been outspoken about her body image and weight issues. She has tried many different approaches, but recently admitted to including a weight-loss drug in her routine.

These revelations sparked debate about the use of pharmaceuticals to help manage weight.

Despite her reported, but still not confirmed, use of Ozempic, Oprah insists she has continued to maintain an active lifestyle, set fitness goals and stick to healthy eating habits.

Oprah also revealed in an interview with People magazine that her fight against obesity had consumed her for many years.

While Oprah remains a role model for many when it comes to adopting a healthier lifestyle, Jillian Michaels urges people to be cautious when it comes to weight-loss drugs.

Indeed, they can have certain side effects, and Michaels encourages traditional methods instead.

New PlayStation 5 models appear in Australia with reduced weight

Sony has reportedly reduced the weight of the PlayStation 5 console.

Per a report from Australian-based gaming site Press Start (via The Verge), new models of the PS5 have started appearing in Australia with reduced weight. The new disc model (CFI-1202A) clocks in at 3.8kg (8.6lbs), about a 7 percent reduction from the previous 4.2kg (9.2lbs) model. It’s worth noting that was already a reduction from the original PS5 model, which weighed 4.5kg (9.9lbs).

The digital PS5 nabbed a similar 7 percent weight, going from an original weight of 3.9kg (8.6lbs) to 3.4kg (7.5lbs), a roughly 13 percent reduction.

Now, the disc version of the PS5 weighs as much as the original digital PS5, which is pretty neat. Unfortunately, it’s not clear why the new PS5 models weigh less — Sony previously changed up the heatsink to reduce the weight, so it’s possible the company made a similar change this time around too. We’ll likely learn why after someone cracks open one of the new PS5 models and compares it with a heavier model.

While it may not seem like a big deal, reducing the weight of the PS5 likely has a few benefits for Sony, like reducing the cost and/or complexity of manufacturing and shipping.

It’s worth noting the change comes after Sony upped the price of the PS5 in Canada and other regions. The price increase likely has nothing to do with any changes to the weight of the console, but it’s kinda funny to think people will technically pay more for less PS5. Shrinkflation strikes again!

Not hungry but still snacking? Study probes kids and weight

(Relaxnews) – A new study announced Monday finds that snacking can result in enough excess calories to make a radical difference in a kid’s weight — but that overweight kids may be less responsive to internal clues of hunger and fullness than normal-weight kids.

When compared to their normal-weight siblings, overweight and obese children ate 34 percent more calories from snack foods even after eating a meal, according to a new study from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in the US. That calorie difference, sustained over time, can lead to continued excess weight gain, the researchers said.

In a study of 47 same-sex sibling pairs, the researchers found that, even after eating a meal until they were satiated, overweight and obese children were more prone to overeating when presented with desirable snack foods than their normal-weight siblings.

The study also showed that normal-weight siblings ate less of the meal than their overweight siblings when provided with a calorie-dense appetizer just before the meal. Overweight and obese siblings did not cut back on the amount they ate at the meal to offset the additional calories from the appetizer.

"The overweight and obese siblings showed an impaired ability to adjust for calorie differences and consumed more snacks even when satiated," says lead author Tanja Kral, PhD, an assistant professor at Penn Nursing. "These findings suggest some children are less responsive to their internal cues of hunger and fullness and will continue eating even when full."

Findings are published online in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Another recent US study found that snacks account for a quarter of kids’ calories. Researchers found that children consumed on average more than 300 calories from snack foods such as cookies and chips and less than 45 calories from vegetable and fruit snacks. Findings from that study were published in the May issue of the International Quarterly of Community Health Education.

First pregnancy carries more weight

Weight gain during pregnancy is a concern for all expectant mothers. A recent report sheds some light on the subject.

The study found that women expecting their first child are likely to gain more weight than those who have already had children.

Of the 5,554 participants, researchers discovered that younger women, the less educated, and native women tended to gain more weight than is recommended during pregnancy.

Guidelines recommend that a woman with a body mass index (BMI) of less than 20 before pregnancy, gain 27.5 to 40 pounds during her pregnancy. If not, she will have a low birth weight baby.

Women with a BMI of 20-27 before pregnancy, are encouraged to gain 25-35 pounds, while women with a BMI over 27.1 should not gain more than 25 pounds.

The study concluded that 55 percent of overweight women gain too much weight during pregnancy, while the rate was 41 percent for those in a normal weight range, and 26 percent among women who are too thin.

Five to nine months after giving birth, women who gained the most weight often retain the most – an average of ten pounds.

The Benefits of Taking Long, Moderate Walks

Dr. Philip A. Ades at the University of Vermont’s Faculty of Medicine claims that daily walks lasting 45 to 60 minutes at a slow pace is more beneficial to health compared to fast walks.

According to the American researcher, moderate walks help lose weight and improve heart function more effectively for patients in rehabilitation.

“The benefits of weight loss in cardiac patients have not been all that clear. And docs are usually pessimistic that their patients can accomplish weight loss. The reason people don’t lose weight in cardiac rehab is they don’t burn enough calories with their exercise,” stated Dr. Ades, who is convinced that walking burns more calories than biking or swimming.

Further details on this study are published in the online edition of Circulation.

A Quick and Easy Way to Lose Pounds

According to Health News, if you’re dieting, it’s best to limit calories in your drinks rather than in your food.

According to certain studies, cutting back on sugary beverages can help you to lose pounds.  Dr. Liwei Chen explained, “Weight loss from liquid calories is greater than loss of calorie intake from solid food.”

Chen added, “If you reduce your intake of beverages, particularly sugar-containing beverages, it’s a simple but easy way to help you maintain your weight. You can avoid additional weight gain, or if you are on a diet, it’s an easy, simple way to help you achieve your goals.”

A Study of Weight Gain During Pregnancy

In a study of more than 1 200 women, those who had been previously dieting gained too much or too little weight during pregnancy.

The University of North Carolina study revealed that restricted eaters, who were underweight at the start of their pregnancy, were found to gain either too much or not enough weight when carrying an unborn child.

According to recommendations by specialists, a woman should gain between 28 and 40 pounds if they were too thin before pregnancy.  A normal sized woman should gain between 25 and 35 pounds, while an overweight woman should gain between 15 and 25 pounds.  Obese women should only gain 15 pounds with pregnancy.

These are ideal guidelines, and a variety of health and hereditary issues may change the recommended weight gain.

The Benefits of Eating at Regular Hours

Those who are watching what they eat may want to shift their attention to the benefits of eating meals at regular hours.

According to researchers at the Karolinska Institute at the Swedish Medical University, people that eat at random hours of the day are more at risk for suffering from metabolic syndrome and developing glucose intolerance.

Metabolic syndrome is characterised by a waist size that is double than normal, arterial hypertension, hyperglycemia and a reduced level of HDL cholesterol. Basically, all the risk factors that lead to cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes are combined in one person.

To come to these conclusions, investigators observed 400 people over 60 years of age who were known to eat meals at irregular hours and skip their meals.

"Dietary advice is usually all about what kind of food we should eat,"  said Professor Mai-Lis Hellénius, who conducted the research. "But this study shows that the way in which we eat can also be an important health factor."
