Using Caffeine to Lose Weight

Caffeine, a member of the methylxanthines family, is naturally present in coffee beans, cocoa and tea leaves, and is known to be a stimulant.

Cyberpresse.ca reports that studies have proven consuming caffeine can help promote weight loss and help with weight maintenance.

Some nutritionists are even recommending that their clients increase their use of caffeine when wanting to shed extra weight.

Studies carried out on rodents have shown that extended intake of caffeine aids in weight loss.  The amount of weight loss was also proportional to the amount of caffeine consumed.

Another study, conducted over 12 years, showed that people who use caffeine regularly were less prone to weight problems.

Cutting Out Fructose

According to research conducted by the University of Florida, it is best to avoid fructose.  Evidence has shown that avoiding fructose is better than banning bread, potatoes and rice.

Dr. Richard Johnson, the principal author of the study, explained, "There’s a fair amount of evidence that starch-based foods don’t cause weight gain like sugar-based foods and don’t cause the metabolic syndrome like sugar-based foods."

Table sugar is composed in equal parts of both fructose and glucose.  Consuming too much fructose increases uric acid, which causes inhibition of insulin, and in the worst cases, type 2 diabetes.

Obviously, the amount of fructose being ingested is not the only factor that can lead to obesity.  Too many calories, as well as eating junk food and saturated fats also contribute to that problem.

In the United States, 33% of the population is overweight or obese.
