Apple’s Beats Fit Pro release in Canada on January 24 for $249

After releasing in the U.S. back in November, Apple-owned Beats will bring its Fit Pro wireless earbuds to Canada on January 24th for $249.

The wireless earbuds feature 27-hours of charging with their case, active noise cancellation, a transparency mode, adaptive EQ, Apple’s H1 chip and Spatial Audio with head-tracking support. The Fit Pro seem designed to fall above the Studio Buds and possibly replace Beat’s more expensive Powerbeats Pro in the headphone/earbud company’s lineup of products.

Along with the above features, the Beats Fit Pro feature a built-in flexible wingtip designed to keep the wireless earbuds secure when they’re in your ears.

The sporty wireless earbuds have generally received positive coverage from most U.S. tech publications, with reviewers stating that the Fit Pros are comfortable and offer excellent noise cancellation. On the other hand, they lack wireless charging and don’t work as well with Android devices as Beats’ Studio Buds.

The Beats Fit Pro are available in ‘Black,’ ‘White,’ ‘Gray’ and ‘Purple/Pink.’ The Beats Fit Pro release in Canada on January 24th for $249.

OnePlus’ Buds Z2 are now available for $149

OnePlus has released an updated pair of earbuds in its ‘Z’ line called the OnePlus Buds Z2 that promise more battery life and active noise cancellation.

I’ve been testing the earbuds for the past few days and will have a full review in the coming weeks. But for now, I’ll say that they sound good, the noise cancellation seems average, and they feel very similar to the OnePlus Buds Z from last year. So far, I have no major complaints, but I’ve yet to compare them to the previous model and key competitors. That said, for the low price of $150, the value the Z2s offer is difficult to beat.

There’s a decent amount to get excited about on the spec sheet, including standard OnePlus fast charging. This time the company says that a 10-minute charge (on a certified charger) offers five hours of listening time. However, that’s not even the most impressive battery stat because with the case, you can use the buds for 38 hours, according to the company. This is incredibly long and might make these the perfect earbuds for people that are away from power for a long time.

They’re also been equipped with Bluetooth 5.2 and can use Google Fast Pair, so the initial connection to most Android phones is fairly seamless. If you’re a OnePlus user, you also get a few additional perks, including the ability to customize the touch controls and noise cancellation levels without downloading the third-party HeyMelody app.

OnePlus also promises better call quality and reduced audio latency down to 94ms. The Z2s are also certified to support Dolby Atmos, but with Apple Music, the effect isn’t as noticeable as Apple’s AirPods with head tracking. It’s still nice, though, and I’ll have more TV show and movie impressions in the full review.

OnePlus says that its noise cancellation can block sounds up to 40dB and in my testing, I can’t hear my fingers on my Macbook keyboard or other ambient sounds. The Buds Z2 are decent at lowering the volume on human voices too, but as with most earbuds, the noise cancellation isn’t groundbreaking.

Other specs include IP55 water/dust-proofing to help the earbuds withstand rain. The case also offers an IPX4 rating, allowing it to handle minimal splashing as well.

So far, OnePlus’ new Z2s sound pretty good, right? Well, there’s a catch — at least for now. Alongside the new earbuds, OnePlus has brought its Red Cable Club to North America. Anyone can sign up for free, but you need to join to buy the earbuds since OnePlus has decided to make them Red Cable Club exclusive.

Everyone starts as a Red Cable Club Explorer, but you can rank up to Elite status by performing a few annoying tasks like subscribing to OnePlus’ newsletters and registering your account. The main way to gain points is to buy OnePlus products. It appears that $1 equals one point. You need over 3,500 points to hit elite status, which only nets you $40 off purchases over $300. Overall, this is a pretty paltry rewards program, but since I assume most OnePlus phone users probably already have a OnePlus account, this isn’t that significant of an issue.

If you want to pick up a pair of the Buds Z2, OnePlus is selling them for $149 to Red Cable Club members only. The company also says that there is a limited quantity of 1,000. If these earbuds sell out, I expect OnePlus to drop more. The company appears to be adopting a similar strategy to ‘Nothing’s’ by releasing with significant hype and exclusivity behind them.

Carl Pei-founded tech startup Nothing’s all-black Ear (1) are now available to order in Canada.

Announced earlier this month, the new black edition brings a smoky matte black finish to the buds, while the basic design of the earbuds remains the same, with transparent stems and a transparent charging case and a matte black finish on the previously white painted elements.

The buds are also IPX4 water-resistant and sport an 11.6mm driver tuned by Swedish gadget maker Teenage Engineering.

Nothing has also announced that it can now receive cryptocurrency payments for its buds. “We’ll be accepting some of the most widely used cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USD Coin (USDC) and Dogecoin (DOGE),” reads Nothing’s blog post.

However, the option doesn’t appear to be live yet in Nothing’s payment section.

Nothing’s Ear (1) buds could soon come in black

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei’s new company, Nothing, launched its first product earlier this year: the Nothing Ear (1) earbuds.

The buds sport a very unique look with a mix of white and transparent plastic. However, some people absolutely must dark mode all the things, so it unsurprisingly didn’t take long for people to start asking Nothing launch Ear (1) buds in black. Now, it seems the company might actually do it.

Starting at the beginning, YouTuber Casey Neistat posted a picture of Nothing Ear (1) buds on Twitter that he coloured black with a Sharpie. Nothing shared the tweet, asking if it was something people wanted.

Fast forward several days, and renders of black Nothing Ear (1) buds are making rounds on Reddit, and leaker Evan Blass posted a picture of a black Ear (1) design. The Redditor who posted the renders claims they’re from assets in the Ear (1) Android app.

While that doesn’t necessarily mean Nothing will launch black Ear (1) buds, Blass’ involvement suggests the product could actually be on the way. And if the Redditor did get the renders from Nothing’s app, that would further indicate the company plans to launch a new Ear (1) colour.

Finally, Android Police spotted a tweet pointing to a Nothing video uploaded in July that clearly shows part of a black Ear (1) bud on the desk (it’s visible at 0:39 seconds). So, it seems that Nothing at least toyed with a black colour option before launching the Ear (1) in August — if the company’s already done that, it might not take long for it to get a black colour option ready to sell.

Hypersonic’s wireless earbuds feature case that offers 360 hours of battery life

Maybe the roughly 24 hours of charging time you get from the case included with Apple’s AirPods just isn’t enough for you?

This is where LinearFlux’s Hypersonic 360 wireless earbuds come in. The black and lime green wireless earbuds look like relatively standard, non-descript wireless earbuds — at least at first. It’s really in their massive, portable charger-like case where things start to get interesting.

Instead of a measly day, the 360 wireless earbuds are capable of offering charging for a total of 360 hours. Of course, this also means that the buds’ charging case is absolutely massive and likely pretty heavy. On the plus side, the Hypersonic 360’s charging case also doubles as a magnetic charger that supports Apple’s MagSafe technology, allowing you to attach an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 to it for charging.

It’s unclear just how much capacity the Hypersonic 360’s charging case offers, but given its size and the fact that it can change a dead smartphone to 50 percent in roughly 25 minutes, it’s likely pretty big.

Other notable Hypersonic 360 features include the company’s own take on Apple’s ‘Spatial Audio’ called the ‘Hyper Definition Spatial Engine,’ IPX6 sweat and water-resistance and an hour of battery life for the buds after just five minutes of charging.

Hypersonic 360 wireless earbuds

I’ve never heard of LinearFlux, the company behind these earbuds before, so that’s something to consider if you’re thinking about picking them up.

The wireless buds are also far from cheap at $139 (roughly $175 CAD) and initially started life as a Kickstarter project. Still, the concept of a pair of earbuds with a charging case that doubles as a power bank is pretty compelling.

Beats reveals new Fit Pro wireless earbuds with flexible wing tip design

In a surprise move, Apple-owned Beats has announced a new pair of wireless earbuds, the $199 USD (about $245 CAD) Beats Fit Pro.

The Fit Pro seems designed to fall between the Studio Buds and the headphone company’s more expensive Powerbeats Pro and Powerbeats. As it stands right now, it’s unclear if the Beats Fit Pro will release in Canada.

The wireless earbuds aren’t currently listed on Apple’s or Beats’ Canadian website, and a U.S.-focused press release only states that they’re coming to the U.S. on November 5th. MobileSyrup has reached out to Apple for more information.

That said, like most Beats products, the Beats Fit Pro will likely make their way north of the U.S. border in a few weeks. The wireless earbuds feature built-in flexible wingtips designed to keep them securely planted in your ears while exercising.

It’s worth noting that the Fit Pro also include Apple’s H1 chip, allowing them to offer one-step pairing and switching between Apple devices. Other features include Spatial Audio, the same skin sensor included in Apple’s 3rd-gen AirPods and noise-cancellation. Beats’ Studio Buds, on the other hand, don’t feature Apple’s H1 chip.

The Beats Fit Pro are available in ‘Black,’ ‘White,’ ‘Gray’ and ‘Purple/Pink’ with U.S. pre-orders being available now and shipping on November 5th.
