What FIFA World Cup team do you want to win?

FIFA’s World Cup is currently ongoing, and we’ve been here to help you watch all of Canada’s games.

I used to be an avid FIFA fan growing up, but I’ve definitely lost passion for the sport of soccer/football as I’ve grown older. With this in mind, my question this week is, what team are you rooting for?

I’ve always been a big fan of the Brazilian and the French teams, but as a born and raised Canadian, I have to vote for Canada’s team.

Shakira gets the crowd moving

Shakira made sure the 2010 FIFA World Cup of Soccer ended in style. The Colombian pop star headlined the closing ceremony in South Africa yesterday (July 11).

Wearing designer Roberto Cavalli, Shakira performed the FIFA anthem Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) accompanied by the South African Afro-fusion band Freshlyground.

The more than 80,000-strong audience included stars ranging from actors Morgan Freeman and Charlize Theron to supermodel Naomi Campbell.

Grammy Award-winning cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo was on hand to perform as well. Billboard.com reported: "Their signature a capella music proved a terrific accompaniment to the procession of mechanized elephants that appeared to "drink" from a wetland created visually on the pitch."

The biggest cheers came when 91-year old former President Nelson Mandela appeared. He was driven around the pitch in a car and waved to the adoring crowd.

Billboard also noted: "The closing ceremony was broadcast to 215 countries with an estimated global television audience in excess of 500 million viewers."

The 2010 FIFA World Cup wrapped up with Spain triumphing over the Netherlands. The Spaniards won 1-0 in extra time.
