These Xbox 360 games will be delisted in Canada next week

Xbox has announced that a few dozen Xbox 360 games will be delisted from the Xbox 360 Marketplace on February 7th.

As spotted by Wario64, Xbox has quietly updated its support page to list a variety of 360 games that will be removed from the console’s digital storefront. Thankfully, Xbox confirmed with The Verge that any of these games that are playable on Xbox One and Series X/S via backwards compatibility will remain available. Further, 360 players who purchase any of these games before February 7th can continue playing and even re-download them past this date.

It should be noted that the games that are being removed vary depending on the country, but here’s the Canada-specific list:

  • Aegis Wing
  • Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood
  • Assassin’s Creed III
  • Assassin’s Creed IV
  • Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD
  • Blood of the Werewolf
  • Blue Dragon
  • Breakdown
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts
  • Castle Crashers
  • Cloning Clyde
  • Counter-Strike: GO
  • Dark Souls
  • Darksiders II
  • DAYTONA USA
  • Defense Grid
  • Eets: Chowdown
  • Far Cry 2
  • Final Fight: DblImpact
  • Iron Brigade
  • Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad
  • Jet Set Radio
  • Left 4 Dead
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • LIMBO
  • Lost Odyssey
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Monopoly Deal
  • Mutant Blobs Attack
  • N+
  • Outpost Kaloki X
  • Peggle 2
  • Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds
  • Prince of Persia
  • R.U.S.E.
  • Sega Vintage Collection: Alex Kidd & Co.
  • Skate 2
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth
  • Spelunky
  • Splinter Cell: Conviction
  • Star Wars: Battlefront
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

Xbox didn’t provide a reason as to why these games are being delisted. However, companies regularly discontinue content on older platforms, with the Wii U and 3DS’ respective digital storefronts being next on the chopping block in March.

Hyperkin is remaking the Xbox 360’s iconic gamepad for modern consoles

Accessory maker Hyperkin is releasing an officially licensed remake of the original Xbox 360 gamepad, offering those who spent time with Microsoft’s golden era console a blast from the past.

The ‘Xenon’ gamepad, named after the Xbox 360’s first internal development codename, looks the same as the now 17-year-old controller, only it now features ‘Menu,’ ‘View’ and ‘Share’ buttons, alongside a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB-C charging. The gamepad is available in ‘White,’ ‘Black,’ ‘Pink,’ and ‘Red.’

It’s unclear how much Xenon plans to charge for the gamepad, but given its massive Duke controller remake costs roughly $120, expect to pay a lot of money to relive your childhood.

bHopefully, Hyperkin has fixed some of the classic gamepad’s key issues, including its splitting joysticks and wonky D-pad that often leans to one side. This is a tough sell for me, even as someone who has fond memories of the Xbox 360 era. Microsoft’s Xbox gamepad hasn’t changed much over the years and has mostly been refined between generations. The Series X/S gamepad is near perfect, and I don’t want to relive the slightly less comfortable Xbox 360-era controller in 2022.

Hyperkin’s Xenon is compatible with the Xbox Series X/S and Windows 10/11 devices. It’s unclear when the gamepad will release.

Xbox Games with Gold to stop offering Xbox 360 games starting October 2022

Starting October 1st, 2022, Xbox 360 games will no longer be offered at no additional cost as part of Microsoft’s Xbox Games with Gold program.

The company confirmed the news in a July 5th email sent to Xbox gamers. In the note, Xbox says “we have reached the limit of our ability to bring Xbox 360 games to the catalog.” However, the company promised that Games with Gold will continue to feature “exciting Xbox One titles and exclusive savings” each month.

Historically, Xbox Games with Gold has offered Xbox Live Gold subscribers four games per month, with one or two usually being 360 titles. Xbox Live Gold costs $11.99 CAD/month or $29.99/three months. The service is also included with a $16.99/month Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

It should be noted, however, that any 360 titles redeemed through Games with Gold before October 2022 will be yours to keep permanently, even if you don’t continue your Gold subscription. Further, many digital 360 games will also remain available for purchase on the Xbox Store as an alternative.

In November, Microsoft added nearly 80 Xbox 360 games to its backwards compatibility program to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Xbox. At the time, the company said that would be the final batch of new backwards compatible titles, as it had “reached the limit of our ability to bring new games to the catalog from the past due to licensing, legal and technical constraints.” Naturally, then, it was only inevitable that it would stop offering them through Games with Gold as well.

Wear the Xbox 360 on your feet with Xbox and Adidas’ new sneaker

Xbox and Adidas have unveiled the first of the companies’ 20th-anniversary sneaker collection. The shoe marks the very first Xbox-themed sneaker to release in North America.

The Xbox 360 Forum Mid features a myriad of tributes and easter eggs designed to celebrate the history of the Xbox. The kicks include the Xbox 360’s signature white, silver, and green colour scheme. Eagle-eyed fans will also notice the 360 disk tray decal on the shoe’s strap and references to the console’s removable hard drive and air vents on the heel.

The Forum Mids are laced white with four additional pairs of laces themed after the different colours of the face buttons on the 360’s controller.

The limited release will be available for purchase in both Canada and the U.S. on November 4th at 10pm ET/7pm PT on adidas.ca.

Also, as a part of the ‘Always Played In. Never Played Out’ initiative, Xbox faithful can check ‘In Queue.’ In Queue works like a virtual reveal experience to celebrate and aims to relive what Microsoft calls “the golden age of gaming: the launch of the Xbox 360.” The digital trip down memory lane can be seen at neverplayedout.net.

These shoes are the first of a larger partnership between Xbox and Adidas.

Historic Day for the Beatles

After months of waiting, Beatles fans will be pleased to get their hands on the legendary band’s box set just released today (September 9).

The Beatles Stereo Box Set includes the entire collection of albums by the Fab Four. For the first time in 20 years, the Beatles catalogue has been remastered with the help of the latest technology. The soundtracks have been reworked on several levels, and the discs are said to have exceptional sound quality, and will allow us to rediscover songs that are still being sung today.

Another highly awaited event occurring today is the release of The Beatles: Rock Band video game, which includes 42 songs by the foursome from Liverpool. The game will be offered for the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. They are being sold in limited edition with working replicas of the Beatles’ instruments.

When NME magazine asked Sir Paul McCartney if he’s tried out the game, he replied, "I haven’t tried it. When you go to a demo they play it and I go ‘God, that looks hard.’"
