Take a pub tram tour of Helsinki

The Tramway Bar takes you on a tour of the Finnish capital, barmaid included.

People who want to take a short city tour are used to getting on a bus and visiting popular sites with the monotone sound of a tour operator guiding them along. Forget about that… there’s a hip alternative in Helsinki. The Tramway Bar is an historic tramway car converted into a bar.

The Sparakoff pub tram started in 1995. It runs from May to August along Helsinki’s main tram routes. The 40-minute tour takes visitors past some of the city’s most popular sights. You can order a drink and enjoy driving by places like the Central Railway Station, Ateneum Art Museum, Pitkäsilta bridge, Hakaniemi Square and its market hall, Kallio Library, Töölö Bay, Olympic Stadium, Finlandia Hall, National Museum, Parliament House and many more.

This unique vehicle is the only one of its kind in the world. It is not necessary to make a reservation before boarding. It runs from Tuesday to Saturday with departures at 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 pm.

The Visit Helsinki website describes the Sparakoff:  "The interior of the tram is decorated in classic pub style with mahogany and brass, with seating for 30 customers to enjoy the fun atmosphere. Sparakoff can be hired for private functions throughout the year."

The hourly rate costs 8 € to board, 4 € for children under 12.
