Tate museums plan special exhibits for 2012 London Olympics

U.K. museums will feature works from Picasso, Monet and Munch.

Tate museums in the U.K will be hosting a series of high-profile exhibitions – including works from Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet and Edvard Munch – in honor of the 2012 London Olympics.

Two new works have been commissioned as part of the Cultural Olympiad, a four-year arts program leading up to the 2012 summer games. The first, to be held at Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, will feature Berlin artist Tino Sehgal, while the second, Tate Movie Project, is a film animation project for children.

Between June and October 2012, London’s Tate Modern will host the exhibit Edvard Munch: The Modern Eye, which promises to be a ‘radical assessment’ of Munch’s work with photography and film.

From February to June 2012, Tate Britain, also in London, will host a special Picasso exhibit, exploring the artist’s relationship with the country. In September 2012, another gallery exhibition will showcase the works of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

Tate Liverpool will feature the works of J.M.W. Turner, Monet and Twombly from June to October, while Tate St Ives in Cornwall will feature U.S. artist Alex Katz in an exhibition running from May to September.
