Taylor Lautner Gets Hero Role

Taylor Lautner will be starring in a new action film.

After is was revealed that Lautner would play the lead role in Max Steel, the actor has also been cast in the action film Cancun.

Summit Entertainment, the same studio behind the Twilight franchise in which Lautner plays Jacob, will also be producing the upcoming project.

The story revolves around a student who goes to Cancun during spring break with a friend.  When a group of tourists are taken hostage by a drug cartel, the young man will be forced to save them.

This film was designed to bring forth Lautner’s martial arts talents.  The actor’s father, Dan Lautner, is in talks to produce the film with Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill.  They also produced The Twilight Saga: New Moon.  Summit Entertainment hired Eric Champnella and Grant Thompson to write the screenplay.

In the meantime, Taylor Lautner will be in theatres in the film Valentine’s Day, opening February 12.  He will also star in Twilight: Eclipse on June 30, 2010.
