International modelling agency IMG Models has confirmed they no longer represent Gossip Girl star and musician Taylor Momsen, 17, reports Coco Perez.
Momsen had been with IMG since 2008, but her appearance and reputation have changed drastically since then, going from squeaky clean to goth girl, giving rise to rumours that IMG dropped her because of the transformation. IMG, however, has declined to comment on the reasons behind the split.
Momsen’s professional acting career started when she was only three, and she signed on as an IMG model at the age of 14. She has recently become the new ‘it’ girl in the fashion and beauty world as the new face of the spring-summer 2010 collection for UK’s New Look chain of stores, as well as Madonna’s Material Girl fashion line, and John Galliano’s new fragrance.
The television series Gossip Girl also seems to be distancing itself from Momsen, who has portrayed Jenny Humphrey since the series began. The actress was sidelined this season, appearing in only three episodes this fall, despite being credited as a series regular, and is now on indefinite hiatus.
At least the teen star has her music to fall back on. In 2009, she founded the alt rock band The Pretty Reckless, and performs as lead singer. Their debut album, Light Me Up, was released in the UK this past August, though it has yet to see a North American release.
