Taylor Swift and Adele dominate American Music Awards

Singer-songwriters each win 3 trophies last night in Los Angeles.

Yesterday (November 20), singer-songwriters Taylor Swift and Adele each won three trophies at the American Music Awards at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Swift, 21, was crowned artist of the year in addition to winning in the country music categories of favorite female artist and favorite album for Speak Now. The male country artist of the year was Blake Shelton.

British soul singer Adele won favorite pop-rock artist and album for 21, and favorite adult contemporary artist. The singer is recovering from throat surgery and did not attend the ceremony.

American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars won for favorite male pop-rock artist, while Maroon 5 picked up favorite pop-rock band. For soul-R&B, Rihanna’s Loud won for favorite album, while Usher and Beyonce picked up favorite artist awards.

Nicki Minaj won favorite rap/hip-hop artist and album with Pink Friday. Jennifer Lopez was named favorite Latin artist. Foo Fighters were awarded favorite alternative artist, and the new artist of the year award went to Hot Chelle Rae.

Katy Perry received a special AMA as the first woman in the history of pop music to have five number one singles all from one album.
