Taylor Swift earns her seat at the table

The 20-year old singer-songwriter gets invited into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The news will likely come as a surprise to some. The honour of being inducted into a hall of fame usually comes after a busy career, after an artist has reached the age of 50 or 60. Now the Songwriters Hall of Fame has decided to honour someone much younger.

Singer Taylor Swift, just 20 years old, has won more awards than many artists do after a long career. She will now receive the Hal David Starlight Award. It honours a songwriter at the peak of their career who is making a real impact on the music industry.

She has just two albums to her name, including the popular Fearless which has earned more than its share of awards at various galas since its release. Swift will enter the Songwriters Hall of Fame along with Leonard Cohen who had to wait until the age of 75 to receive the honour.

Other artists to be honoured at the induction ceremony include Phil Collins. He was formerly with Genesis and went on to a successful solo career. Producer David Foster also made the cut. He has worked with many stars over the years and written several hit songs for artists like Celine Dion.

The ceremony takes place on June 17 in NYC. Other musicians who have received the Hal David Starlight Award include John Mayer, Alicia Keys, and Jason Mraz.
