Taylor Swift honored as Ultimate Choice

Weeks before the ceremony, the star has been named a 2011 Teen Choice Award recipient.

In an annual award ceremony where teen-opinion rules, country music star Taylor Swift has been named the recipient of the 2011 Ultimate Choice award.

The award – considered to be the highest honor of the evening – goes to the individual who has been deemed as having made "extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry."

The multi-talented singer-songwriter/musician/actress is also nominated for six additional awards at next month’s ceremony, including best female artist and best country single for Mean.

Previous Ultimate Choice winners include superstars Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mike Myers and Reese Witherspoon.

Teen sensation Justin Bieber is another nominee who’ll be honored at the upcoming awards, receiving nods in the categories of male artist and red carpet fashion icon (male), among others.

The 2011 Teen Choice Awards – hosted by Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco – will take place on August 7. Confirmed performances include Selena Gomez & The Scene, and One Republic.

The ceremony will air at 8:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. CDT) on Fox.
