Tesla Offers Road Service

Inspired by the "Geek Squad" of Best Buy stores, Tesla has announced that they will be offering mobile service to their customers.

Marking a first in the automotive world, Tesla Roadster owners, and soon the owners of the Model S sedans, will be getting house calls.  The brand will be using repair "Rangers" to perform maintenance on their vehicles.

However, the service won’t be entirely free.  The Rangers will charge $1 per round-trip mile from the nearest service centre, with a minimum charge of $100.

Thanks to the onboard computer, Tesla owners can download car data and forward that information to the brand for a preliminary diagnosis.  The California automaker also recommends an inspection annually, or every 19 000 kilometres.

The first mobile units will be based in the Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Seattle and New York.  Others will be opening their doors in Chicago, Washington, Miami and Toronto.  Tesla is expected to continue in other markets in the future.
