The Audi R8 ePerformance

Forget about the V8 or the V10. Following the examples set by the Tesla Roadster, Fisker Karma or the forthcoming electric Mercedes Benz SLS, Audi is set to introduce its all-electric vehicle called the R8 ePerformance.

"What happened to electricity?," is Audi’s opening line for its online marketing campaign that was recently launched. On the brand’s Web site, the subject of the potential to run off electricity is broached, while Audi hints to bring a wave of change on September 15.

The purpose of the campaign is simple; to create a buzz for the unveiling of the Audi R8 ePerformance, a concept supercar based on the brand’s flagship.

With zero gas emission and a maximum torque ready at 0 rpm, the benefits of trading out the sports car combustion engine for batteries are numerous.

Still, the question remains whether the car will be as comfortable on the road as its fuelled counterparts.  More information on the car will be available on September 15.
