The Band Perry gave an astounding performance in London last night (19.11.12).
The ‘If I Die Young’ hitmakers completed the European leg of their latest tour with a dazzling display of their finest hits, complemented by an array of covers by the likes of Fun. and Tom Petty as well as a performance of Don McLean’s ‘American Pie’ at the city’s Koko venue.
Fresh from their scintillating performance at the Country Music Awards (CMAs) earlier this month, the group – who are made up of siblings Kimberly Perry (lead vocals), Reid Perry (bass guitar) and Neil Perry (mandolin) – opened with the energetic ‘Sugar Sugar’ before launching into 2009 single ‘Hip to My Heart’.
The band wowed the 1,500 strong crowd with fan favourites ‘All Your Life’ and ‘Independence’, which they combined with Petty’s ‘Free Fallin’, before performing two brand new songs, ‘I Saw a Light’ and ‘Pioneers’, from their as-yet untitled second studio album.
Their new record looks set to be a hit if the new pair of tracks are anything to go by, and the group followed up their fresh songs with some old-school covers, performing ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘American Pie’ before turning Queen’s ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’ into a country anthem.
Following their blast from the past, the group pulled off an equally exciting version of new single, ‘Better Dig Two’, followed by classics ‘Postcard From Paris’ and their ultimate top-20 hit ‘If I Die Young’ before signing off with a cover of Fun.’s ‘We Are Young’ and their own opening self-titled debut album track ‘You Lie’.
