The Beach Boys celebrate 50 years with new album

Remaining members are all on board, says band member Mike Love.

Band member Mike Love says The Beach Boys will celebrate their 50th anniversary by recording a new album, according to Billboard.com. All remaining members have agreed to the project although it is only in its very early planning stages.

In a recent interview, Love explained details on the impending project: "Where we’re at right now is Brian (Wilson)’s written some songs, I’ve written some songs (and) we’re talking very seriously about getting together and co-writing and doing some new music together."

"He’s been doing his own touring, we’ve been doing ours and so we haven’t really been able to lock into that, but it looks like this fall we will. It just makes a lot of sense with a milestone such as 50 years to get together and do something," he continued.

Originally formed in Hawthorne, California in 1961, the band’s 1996 album, Stars and Stripes Volume One, marked the last time the band released new material.

Love also hinted that there may be one or more live performances with original members Bruce Johnston and Al Jardine in the works. Brian Wilson was omitted from his statement, although Wilson’s participation is speculated to still be a distinct possibility.
