The Coen Brothers Doing Work in Yiddish

The Coen Brothers will be doing a film adaptation of another book written by a Pulitzer-Prize winner.

The Coen brothers have had tremendous success with the film adaptation of the book No Country for Old Men, which has eight Oscar nominations. The Coen brothers and producer Scott Rudin are now doing a film adaptation of the novel The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon.

In this movie, Jewish settlers are displaced by the American government, who would like to turn the land of Sitka, Alaska, back to Alaskan natives. In the backdrop there is a dark murder mystery.

Before starting The Yiddish Policemen’s Union, the Coen brothers will finish shooting A Serious Man.  Chabon has had two other novels adapted for the big screen by producer Rudin: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, and Wonder Boys (2000), starring Michael Douglas and Tobey Maguire.  The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay is in production,  and Chabon won the Pulitzer for this book in 2001.
