The CTS-V Rises to the Challenge

General Motors Vice President, Bob Lutz, proposed a particular challenge during a press conference.  He invited any journalist to a duel with the Cadillac CTS-V to see if a comparable car could compete.

That event took place on Thursday, October 29, at the Monticello Motor Club in Upstate New York.

One of the best competitors in the race was the team from Jalopnik, an American blog site, who were set to race with a Jaguar XFR and a Mercedes E63 AMG, however, both of the manufacturers pulled out.  Finally, the team completed the course with a Lancer Evolution X.  Other cars entered in the race included an Audi RS4, a BMW M5, M3, and a Jaguar XF.

In order to find the best time, the entrants were given timed runs around the 5.6-km track.

The results were clear, with four of the top five slots taken by the Cadillac CTS-V.  Former GM engineer and race driver, John Heinricy, had the fastest time with 2:46:560.  It was a truly amazing performance from the same man who had worked the car over in Nurburgring.

The Cadillac’s only competitor to finish in the top five was the BMW M3, finishing with a time of 2:50:424.

Bob Lutz, 77, also gave a respectable performance, finishing in 7th place, before Jalopnik.
