The DeLorean brand will unveil a new electric sports car this August, 40 years after the arrival of the DMC-12 cult movie car.

Everyone remembers the spectacular car starring in the movie series Back to the Futurestarring Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett Brown. Designed in aluminum with a rear engine and doors shaped like airplane wings, the DMC-12 has made history.

This time, the new DeLorean will be an electric sports car. Like the DCM-12, the new car was designed by Italdesign.

The use of an electric drive should allow the new DeLorean to have an engine worthy of the name. Forty years ago, the DMC-12 was criticized because its engine, a 2.85-liter V6, was not powerful enough to move the heavy car. This resulted in a 0-100 km/h time of 10 seconds, far behind other sports cars on the market.

The DMC-12 was built from 1981 to 1982. Only 9,000 cars were assembled before the brand went bankrupt in October 1982.
