The Dixie Chicks Dominate the Grammy Awards

The country trio the Dixie Chicks won five Grammy Awards at last night’s prestigious music event.

Four years after their controversy over comments made against American President George W. Bush, the Dixie Chicks are on top.  The group took home prizes for best song (Not Ready to Make Nice), best album (Taking the Long Way), best country performance, and best group.

The evening opened with a live performance by The Police of their successful 1979 hit Roxanne.  Sting and his partners plan to reveal details of their upcoming tour today.

Among other big winners of the night were the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who earned four prizes.  They won for best rock album (Stadium Arcadium), best song (Dani California), best rock performance and best limited edition disc (Stadium Arcadium).

A favourite of the evening was Mary J. Blige, who came to the event with eight nominations.  The singer took home three prizes for best R&B song, best R&B vocal performance for Be Without You, and best R&B album for The Breakthrough.

British singer James Blunt, who was nominated in five categories, went home without a trophy.
