The Fighter will make comeback
At Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards, actor Mark Wahlbwerg confirmed there will indeed be The Fighter 2, reports Coming Soon.
It’s currently unknown exactly which cast members will be returning for the sequel. Both Christian Bale and Melissa Leo won Academy Awards for their supporting roles. David O. Russell may be involved as director or producer.
For the original film, Wahlberg said that the three matches between Arturo Gatti and Mickey Ward had been deliberately set aside for a possible sequel.
"We left out the Arturo Gatti fights for a reason," Wahlberg announced, after the film won for ‘Guy Movie of the Year,’ “Because that’s for ‘Fighter 2.’ We’re not going to do ‘Fighter’ 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, but we’re gonna do 2. We’re going to do the Ward/Gatti trilogy."
The two men faced off in three major fights beginning in 2002, and it’s said that they were so violent that both boxers were hospitalized after each fight.
The biographical sports drama was a project that Wahlberg had been involved with since 2005, and was passionate about doing justice to the life story of boxer ‘Irish’ Micky Ward.
In the meantime, Wahlberg will star alongside Kate Beckinsdale in Contraband on March 16, 2012, and is currently shooting the comedy Ted with Mila Kunis, which will be released July 13, 2012.
