The high cost of beauty

The eyes may also be the window to your budget.

Canadian women are spending big bucks on cosmetic products to add drama to their eyes. According to a survey conducted by Leger Marketing, eyes are the main facial feature women want to enhance.

When it comes to facial beauty spending habits, the survey revealed that Canadian women spend on average $600 annually on everyday facial beauty cosmetic products and treatments.

Approximately 25 percent of that is spent on eye beauty products or treatments, including mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow, false eyelashes, and eyelash growth products.

This is the equivalent of 40 tubes of mascara, 30 eyeliners, 30 lipsticks and 10 false eyelashes, or up to three days at a high-end spa. But despite this beauty splurge, close to 70 percent of women aren’t completely satisfied with the results they’re getting.

According to some dermatologists, over-hyped eye beauty products may be giving women false hope, so it’s important to do your homework regarding all potential side effects of a particular beauty treatment – especially when it comes to the eyes.

For example, there are over-the-counter eyelash serums and lash growth products like Latisse (popularized by Brooke Shields in the U.S.) available by prescription that makes the lashes thicker, longer and darker.
