The Koup Makes a Statement

A New Compact

The Koup has expanded into the compact arena, a very significant sector in the Quebec market. After the Soul and the Forte, the Koup takes Kia into a new dimension of its completely redesigned range. In doing this, they managed to assemble a new design department with Peter Schreyer at the helm, the former design head at Volkswagen and Audi. The Koup’s modern styling gets noticed with a plunging front, enhancing the car’s sporty nature, and the raised rear, which is accentuated by its steeply-inclined side windows.

Up to Date

Mechanically, the Koup comes with two choices of motors. The EX version includes a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, delivering 156 horsepower, while the higher-end version, the SX, boasts a 2.4-litre 173 horsepower engine. The five-speed manual box comes standard for both versions. However, the 2.0-litre is only offered with an alternative four-speed automatic transmission, contrary to the 2.4-litre, that is equipped with the Sportmatic manual mode.

Even though the base model comes in a decent package in terms of performance, one must admit that the 2.4-litre better hits the spot and offers greater flexibility. The only downside has to do with the torque. The acceleration is quite timid. But once the engine is ignited, the Koup rides remarkably smooth for a car in this category.

A Bargain at $20 000

All in all, the new coupe from Kia should hit it off in the fierce auto world, thanks to the brand’s financing programmes with starting prices at $18 495, which is a steal for a car that offers style and driving enjoyment.
