The Mercedes 300SL Is Reborn

55 years ago, Mercedes-Benz introduced the 300SL. Today, the brand is bringing it back to life in the form of the SLS AMG.

Evidently, the Mercedes SLS has brought the famous butterfly doors of the 70s back into style.

The centrepiece of the SLS is, of course, the 6.2-litre V8 engine created by AMG, with 563 horsepower coupled with 480 lb-ft of torque. Power is shifted to the rear wheels with the dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox.

Though it is armed with 1 587 kg, the SLS is capable of hitting 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, and can reach 320 km/h.

The beast’s dimensions will earn some respect on the road with its 1.95-metre width, 4.65-metre length and 1.25-metre height.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but one thing that is certain; the car is destined to make an impression. Truth will be told once the SMS AMG makes its appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

To purchase this supercar, it would require shelling out approximately 180 000 euros, which is about $280 000 CAN.
