The Noisettes’ Shingai Shoniwa doesn’t copy trends

Shingai Shoniwa has always been encouraged to embrace a unique style so never pays attention to what’s in fashion.

Shingai Shoniwa has never followed trends.

The Noisettes singer says her family inspired her to incorporate her African heritage into her look and encouraged her to create an individual style from a young age.

She revealed: "My mum always encouraged me to be myself; when everybody was following the same trends she gave me the confidence to embrace my uniqueness.

"Then, when I was about 11, I went to live with my grandmother in Malawi, which is where I learnt to mix styles and experiment."

Shingai likes to express herself via her hair and is constantly experimenting with her tresses because she finds it the most creative way to change up her look.

The 31-year-old British star added to The Telegraph newspaper: "Lots of people with Afro hair can find it difficult and time-consuming to maintain, but from a young age I was trying out different things with my hair, rather than following fashion.

"I’ve had everything from curls to quiffs to an array of updos. I’ve never limited myself to one look or shape, and have always thought hair should just be fun."
