The Oscar Race for Best Foreign Film

The film by Denys Arcand, The Age of Ignorance, is among nine films being considered for an Oscar Award in the Best Foreign Film category.

The 80th Annual Oscar Awards ceremony will take place on February 24 at the Kodak Theater.  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have announced the nominees.  Also competing for Best Foreign Film will be Katyn, by Andrzej Wajda (Poland), L’inconnue (The Unknown Woman) by Giuseppe Tornatore (Italy), Mongol by Sergei Bodrov (Kazakhstan) and 12 by Nikita Mikhalkov (Russia).

Several films were shunned by the Academy this year, including 4 mois, 3 semaines et 2 jours (4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days), Ben X , Persepolis and L’orphelinat (The Orphanage).
