According to Billboard.com, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are suing an American television show, Showtime, after they launched a new television show entitled Californication, which is the same name as their 1999 album. The group is accusing the show of stealing their identity.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers submitted their lawsuit yesterday to the Superior Court in Los Angeles citing Federal laws. They would like the television show to change their name, and would like to have the profits made thus far for the show.

The singer of the group, Anthony Kiedis stated,"Californication’ is the signature CD, video and song of the band’s career. For some TV show to come along and steal our identity is not right."
