The Screenwriters’ Strike is Being Felt

The sequel to The Da Vinci Code is being compromised by the screenwriters’ strike.

The strike by the Writer’s Guild of America is in its third week, and Sony published that it would be delaying the production of Angels & Demons, the sequel to The Da Vinci Code.

Tom Hanks was hired to play the part of Robert Langdon once again, and directing would be by Ron Howard, who also did the first movie. The movie is an adaptation of the Dan Brown novel. The screenplay was written by Akiva Goldsman.

Sony’s spokesperson, Steve Elzer, stated, "While the filmmakers and the studio feel the screenplay is very strong, we do not believe it is the fully-realized production draft required of this ambitious project."

He did reassure that the strike would not affect other productions by Columbia Pictures scheduled for 2008.

Filming of Angels & Demons was supposed to start in the near future, and was scheduled to be in theatres on December 19, 2008. The release date has now been pushed back to May 15, 2009.
