The Sheepdogs announce North American tour

Winners of Rolling Stone contest head out on tour.

Winners of Rolling Stone‘s ‘So You Wanna Be A Rock & Roll Star?’ contest, Saskatchewan rockers the Sheepdogs have announced their first North American tour, reports Altsounds.com.

As the grand prize winners, the Sheepdogs became the first act not signed to a major label to appear on the cover of the magazine. Selected by the readers, the band beat out 16 other contenders for the title.

Now they’re heading out on tour, joining major acts like Kings of Leon, and Robert Randolph & The Family Band. Their North American Tour 2011 began yesterday (August 24) in Thunder Bay, Ontario and will take the rockers all over the U.S. and Canada before wrapping up on November 20 in Montana.

As part of the grand prize, the group performed on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and won a recording contract with Atlantic Records. They immediately released a five-song EP called Five Easy Pieces, which is now available for digital download.
