The Strokes drop several songs from new album

New York rockers decide to change musical direction.

After changing musical direction, New York band The Strokes has discarded several new songs on their upcoming album, reports Clash Music.

In a Rolling Stone interview, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. revealed that band members wanted to try some new material mid-way through their new album. Unfortunately, it meant discarding several tracks due to changing tastes.

Nevertheless, Hammond is excited by the progress of their latest opus: "We’re all really excited to be stepping into the next chapter. We spent the last six months recording in my studio upstate and we are beyond thrilled with the 10 songs we have for this record."

The untitled album is set for release in 2011, The Strokes’ first new album since 2006’s First Impressions of Earth.
